Dartmouth 2024 Applicants Discussion

Hi guys. Is being offered an interview from Dartmouth a positive sign? (I’m an applicant from a highly underrepresented country.) Also, I did not recieve the mid-year grades email…is that bad?

@HYPSM2024 hello, I also applied for Dartmouth and I’m international, but I haven’t got interview for Dartmouth.

Don’t think I saw this thread… but let’s discuss!

Hi Guys! I’m an applicant from the middle east who’s been recently interviewed by a Dartmouth senior. (via skype-- no Dartmouth alums in my region) I wanted to know if Dartmouth only interviews the top applicants (Like Harvard) or if they interview everyone (Like Princeton).

Hey guys I’ve heard that LL for some other Ivies have already been sent out. Does anyone hear something from Dartmouth?

@pastygod I haven’t heard anything.

@pastygod Other than Harvard and Yale, which Ivies have already sent out non-athletic likely letters?

I haven’t heard anything either. But I think Stanford already sent LL if it can be counted as an Ivy.

It can’t, but Ivy League schools aren’t the only ones that send LL. I believe Duke and UVA have also both sent out LLs already.

Dartmouth allegedly sends out likely letters starting from mid-February until March, but I haven’t heard anyone get one back yet.

Wow. All this talk about likely letters and my son hasn’t even even had his interview yet! He has a Skype set up for this Sunday. Is it odd that it is this late. Is it good or bad?

I feel like Dartmouth’s interview is very informal and random. I got the request on Jan 5th and it lasted for about 30 minutes. It’s just a good way to know more about the college and introduce yourself more. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a big deal.

All it does is show the school that you are interested in them enough to take the initiative to interview with an Alumni. The only way it hurts you is if you’re a complete disaster during the interview.

I had my interview this afternoon, its not late

My interview lasted about 2 hours. I think that is a good sign, but in the same breath my interviewer also said that Dartmouth receives a ton of applications from my area.

I had my interview this evening and my interviewer asked me what other schools I had applied to…is that normal? I told him I applied to a few state schools and that’s it, is there a right response to that though? Also, he told me I wouldn’t have gotten this far if I wasn’t a strong applicant, but I was under the impression that everyone got an interview…

I think you answered it well. They are trying to determine whether you really are interested in Dartmouth, so had you rattled off a bunch of other Ivy League schools, it wouldn’t be a great thing in their mind.

I’m shocked by his comment about “making it this far” as I was under the impression that interviews were pretty routine and offered to anybody that had an Alumni in the area…but I could be wrong.

As Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Stanford already sent out LL, have you guys heard anything from Dartmouth?

I was admitted to Dartmouth two years ago with no interview(RD). In fact I was admitted to Columbia, Stanford and Cornell too without an interview

Kinda awkward to ask again… But does anyone receive likely letter?
