I hear quite a bit about Dartmouth's strong alumni network. Most examples seem to be Wall Street related. Can folks give any other examples of strong alumni networks for particular majors etc.? How about in Media or related fields?

In any event, I believe such a reputation speaks well of a school. This and Dartmouth's high donation rates among alumni, indicate that the students love Dartmouth and value the education they were provided. Do others agree and/or have any comments regarding my perception?

Dartmouth’s alumni network is actually what got me interested in the college in the first place. No, not for some opportunistic thinking about career prospects. Rather, it was because of the people I interacted with regularly. My pediatrician was an undergraduate biology major at Dartmouth. My neighbor was a former professional hockey player who also played for Dartmouth. My interviewer was a lawyer with a major in one of the social sciences. One of my local barbers even got an MBA from Tuck.

Yeah, I’m from Boston so Dartmouth alums aren’t exactly hard to come by around here. However, they’re not quite drawn to the financial sector like moths to a light bulb. I’ve found them doing many different things with their Dartmouth degrees and to me, this versatility is far more appealing than any notion of Wall Street networking.

I always found it a bit strange that Dartmouth never had a Dartmouth Club in New York. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, and Cornell have such clubs. Such clubs are having some trouble in todays world, but back in the day they were big.

With Dartmouth’s strong alumni network, I am just surprised it never happened. I know Dartmouth is the smallest of the Ivy’s, but even Williams College (about 1/2 Dartmouth’s size) had one for many years.

Forgive me rightnotleft, certainly there is a club. I was referring to a stand alone facility named the Dartmouth Club. The Williams club also still exists, but they no longer have their own building (although I believe they have their own entrance at the Princeton Club).

Still VeryHappy’s point about tight alumni groups is a reputation that Dartmouth grads can be proud of and perspective students should take note.

LOL, the barber with the Tuck degree also caught my attention. i immediately thought of the book, “The Wealthy Barber”. I think many of us would like to hear more about this interesting person.

The alumni network is terrific, and not only in the financial sector. Dartmouth has lots of graduates in medicine, the arts (including the film industry), politics and the tech industry.
