Dartmouth and Brown Equestrian teams

Anyone have any information on the Brown or Dartmouth riding teams. Recruiting?

These are IHSA teams with no athletic scholarships. Most riders join the team after enrolling. That’s been D22’s experience.

Thank you. I was to believe they are both Div 1 with Dartmouth just competing this past year on the NCAA format. I also thought Brown said they have limited recruiting and Dartmouth only does recommendation letters. Did you not experience this at all. Where did she end up? What was her communication with the schools if any.

Sorry, both of them have NCEA and IHSA teams. NCEA would have recruitment and scholarships. IHSA would not. D22 was looking at IHSA.

@Mcolantu , do you know any of the girls on these teams or even riders at these schools through your own contacts on the circuit? That might be your best source of inside intel.

Many of the most successful junior riders prefer to keep showing on the circuit (with their own horses and trainers) rather than compete with a school team but many of them also have a reasonably good idea of how these programs work.

I’m a little more familiar with the southern teams.

Hi. Thank you l. We do have a few connections but in the coaching side and have been in contact with them. I was hoping to get the perspective from a recruit. My daughter currently competes in the BIgeq and jumpers. Just missed the Macclay finals this year but it was her first year so she has a few more chances. We went into this knowing her academics would take precedent and riding second so these schools are top of her list. Knowing how selective they are any outside info would be nice to just know. Was taking a shot someone had some. Many of the girls do try out after being admitted and you are correct many of the circuit riders do not tend to go this path. She has several friends at several of the top Div 1 schools either now or committed in the next year. We’ve heard a lot about how that works. She will continue to ride her own two even in college until she is done as a junior. She will just fly back and forth as schedules permit.
