Dartmouth and Columbia transfer chances

I'm applying to transfer as a neuroscience major. I like Dartmouth and Columbia about the same. However, my list of schools is getting out of hand (eventually money, etc. becomes a concern) and I need to eliminate one of them. Which one is easier to get in to?

dartmouth. columbia takes one of the smallest, if not the smallest, transfer classes out of the ivy league, and are notoriously tough with transfer credit if u actually do get accepted.

would it help my chances if I told Columbia I'd be willing to stay longer than two years (i'm a sophomore now) and go to summer school if needed?

i dont think so. they admit you expecting that you will be willing to do these things if you need to, and i dont see why you would need to. u only need 15 credits per semester over 4 semesters to get the degree when transferring after sophomore year.

Lawrence I have an incredible amount of familiarity with both schools. I went to Columbia for a year, transferred to Dartmouth, and go to Columbia now for grad. I am actually writing a paper for a random undergrad class I am taking right now. I think you have my email address...

Lawrence,

I thought about it and here is my take. As for chances, honestly it depends on the year and their yield. Both have hovered around 8-12% in recent years. Brown, interestingly has been easier in recent years (its also a place I think you would like the most outside of Harvard).

As for the actual schools, Dartmouth offers a lot of the community and comfort you have enjoyed at Carleton. Its also much easier to be absorbed into the community there than Columbia. BUT it is not a very active campus. To elect John Kerry, sure, but not at the political forefront. Columbia on the other hand is very much this way. I know this is one of the reasons you want to leave Carleton, so my suggestion is to apply to Columbia.

Heck, screw the money. My job is easy anyway. I've decided to apply for both. It's my last chance.

So where did you end up deciding to apply?
