The application just came out, so I just decided to start this thread about the Dartmouth Bound program. I plan on applying, so I was just wondering if anyone can give me any insight on the application process or the program itself. Any others planning on applying?
Hi I was accepted and attended Dartmouth Bound last year, and i can tell you its an awesome experience. Any specific questions?
What is it?
@exl028 a few questions. What activities do you guys do during the few days you are there? Do you know what the acceptance rate is and how many people go? And how is the social aspect, like do you still talk to the people you met there?
@Motodile Basically the staff plans out things for you to do, such as talking with admissions officers, visiting classes, and tours. You really have no free time; I’m not sure what the acceptance rate is but its really competitive and about 75 people go; I mean if you get in its a good sign since you know that the admissions people like you; but its no guaranteed admissions either. Of course; there are so many interesting people to talk to from all across the country and some have done such amazing things; and I still talk to people from this program. its an awesome experience and would really recommend it.
@exl028 Also, is it worth putting on applications for other colleges?
I didnt; i think its more important for Dartmouth; and they know who you are. the admissions person who came to my school during the fall remembered me and everything
@exl028 Ok thanks so much!
@exl028 I know that the program is geared towards minorities and disadvantaged students, but to what extent does that hold true among those who attend the program?
@eklr965 Yeah it is mostly for minorities, but there are some people that are not. I would say just apply and don’t really make that a concern.
I attended last year and had a great experience. Dartmouth was not on my radar until I received an email to consider applying for Dartmouth Bound. It is pretty competitive as there were over 1000 people to apply and roughly 75 attended.
It was a very valuable experience in meeting admissions folk and sitting in on classes and talking to faculty. It was cool to be immersed in the whole experience. Apply and see what happens.
I did not put on my application to other colleges as I didn’t feel that it would help in any way.
How do they pick the people who get in? I have about a 3.0 gpa (because of personal reasons) but I go to a really hard school and I’m a minoritiy with pretty low income and I want to know if i should bother applying
Just wanted to post an update. I was accepted to Dartmouth Bound last year and applied to Dartmouth but was waitlisted. They are right in stating it does not indicate acceptance. My scores and activities only increased since I went but still did not gain admission. However I was accepted to Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Duke and Villanova, so I won’t be accepting the waitlist position.
Good luck to all who apply!
@Fuzerabit Is this program more for URM’s? I am an Asian male and I was just wondering how many Asians there were last year and if it will inhibit my chances.
@Motodile
I would recommend applying regardless. It is geared towards URM applicants but there were a few that were low income and from different backgrounds. I didn’t have any Asians in my group however.
Anyone else from last yeah that can chime in?
Hi, I applied to Dartmouth bound this year and I wanted to know when you got notified of your acceptance
@Klopes I think according to last years thread it was in mid-late May.
^ they told me they had to go through all the dartmouth transfer applications, and those decisions are released early may. so they are going to go through dartmouth bound applications after that
Do you guys have any update as to when they will inform us? You guys mind posting basic stats as well?
I emailed them a couple days ago and was told that results should be sent out sometime during early-mid May.
