Thank You!

Ouch, your standardized test scores hurt. Any chance you can retake? Even though test scores don’t mean everything, a bad test score is still a red flag. And, to be honest with you, even though your extracurriculars are amazing and your GPA extremely high, chances are many other Dartmouth applicants have equal (if not better) certifications. Face it, we’re talking about an Ivy League school. If you can’t retake, then personally I’d say you have a 50/50 chance of getting in.

Nobody has a 50/50 chance of getting in.

Whoops, I didn’t mean 50/50 as in break even. I should have said I think you’re a good match for the school, but don’t feel like you’re absolutely going to get in.

No I can’t retake unfortunately… Is a 32 really that bad? I know it isn’t a 34+, but it is the median for admitted students so I would think that it would be at least a decent score. (maybe not quite as competitive though)

I’m going to be completely honest with you and say its a solid maybe, you need a little bit better ACT and subject tests.

Anymore opinions?

im in the same boat as you i have a 31 on ACT
im kind of worried

My counselor said I had a decent chance at getting in so hopefully he is right. I hope what Dartmouth says is accurate in that they look at more than just test scores, but it’s really hard to believe and stats say otherwise… I guess we’ll see in March!

I believe your ethnicity matters a lot as well. Are you an URM? Will improve your chances if you are. Dartmouth is, in all honesty, a reach for you, but I know people with 1800s in their SATs and <28 on their ACT who got in. As a matter of fact, I know someone from a few years back who was rejected by every school he applied to, except Dartmouth, who wait listed and later accepted him from the wait list. He had a 1790 on his SATs. So, it’s really an unpredictable process with these ivy league and other elite schools. There’s really no point in stressing over your stats at this point though. Who knows, you might be in Hanover this time next year! Good luck!

A 32 is bellow-the-line for Dartmouth.
Realistically you need a 34 to be competitive.

I think you have decent chance of getting into Dartmouth and a 32 is not bad. Dartmouth isn’t going to be like you have a 32, you’re rejected. As you said, they look at aspects other than test scores. Good luck though; my sister went to Dartmouth and she loved it!
