Really tragic. Life is so unpredictable.

fairly attractive too. what kind of psycho did it, and what was the motive?

It was two psychos, and they were both Very Bad Men.

so sad........

Wow she had a great future ahead of her.

I feel soooooo awful for her dad. He will never get over this.

Interesting background of killers

Hopefully they get the death penalty.

Well . . . that's an interesting topic, now, isn't it. I think there was a long thread a while back about the death penalty. Yes, here it is:

There are people (like me) who think that if we impose the death penalty, we're just as low as the bad guys. Besides, isn't there a commandment against such an activity?

I'm generally against the death penalty, but you don't really believe that it's just as bad as raping into someone's house, holding the family hostage, raping an 11 year old girl and her mother, beating the father, kidnapping the mother, then killing the two daughters and their mom? I mean...honestly?

No, I don't believe the death penalty is as "mean" as doing all that. But I don't believe that, as a civilized society, we should have government-sanctioned killing.

This is precisely the kind of stuff that happens all the time, yet you only make note of it now because of a publicized case you can relate to, in a state where such criminal activity is usually unheard of. Bravo.

My highest condolences to Dr. Petit, but let's just not forget that this is not an isolated scenario and that there are others suffering out there because of some low-lives. As long as those men are brought to justice.

Living in the Cheshire area, I can pretty much say that they are going to be executed. The people around here are ****ed, CT is a very liberal state but everyone has their limits. These scumbags deserve to die, I think they should be put into the general population though. See how long they last in there.

More background about the younger perpetrator

Im goin to start a chapter of "Hayley's Hope" at my school

Tragically, the linked newspaper article doesn't fully describe how horrifying the crime really was. Both 17 year old Haley and her 11 year old sister, Michaela, were tied to their beds. The 11 year old was raped. The mother was beaten and later strangled to death, but only after one of the assailants drove her to the family's local bank in an attempt to have her withdraw $15,000 in cash. I am not sure whether the mother and Haley were sexually assaulted, but I suspect that they were. The father was severely beaten, tied up, and thrown in the basement of the house while the two assailants essentially had their way with the mother and the two daughters. As the two assailants were leaving the home, they doused the interior with gasoline (including pouring gas around the beds of the two daughters, to which they were still tied). The two girls died of smoke inhalation. The father barely made it out of the house alive and was discovered in a neighbor's yard by the police. The two assailants stole the family car and were caught when they tried to run a police roadblock. Both have lengthy criminal records. I am a Connecticut resident and consider myself a liberal, but these two "things" (I can't in good conscience call them human beings or even animals) should be put to death as quickly as possible. Putting the likes of them in prison would be a complete waste of taxpayers' money. They brutally murdered three innocent women and have destroyed the life of a prominent, talented man. It's beyond appalling. I can't even imagine what that family endured at the hands of those two.

when i first saw this story on cnn.com a while ago, my heart sank and went even lower when I read the line about Dartmouth. CC is based on the most stressing times of a student's life (college admissions). often these stories make one realize to not stress too much and rather enjoy life, b/c as it tragically happens, life can be taken away without any notice. god this story sucks. what a waste of bright futures and a such utter destruction of a family, a town...how will the father live with such grief? i dont know if I could.

Today's Hartford Courant

Zuma, I assume you live near Cheshire. One question that keeps being asked is how long it took from the time the mother alerted the bank teller until the police arrived at the house. Do you have any idea? (There are mumblings that if the poolice had gotten there sooner, a lot of the tragedy could have been avoided.)
