Thank you My3g8boyz! How did your son feel about that interview? So far I haven’t heard from Dartmouth yet…not sure when to expect for an International student though…

Does anyone know if they have announced the exact day that decisions will come out yet?

'17 ED admit here. ED rates might be ~25% or so, but what a majority of the people on this thread believe is true: ED rates for non-athletes is ~10%. Then, factor out the legacies (a LOT of legacies apply early) then the rate goes down even further.

That being said, Dartmouth is a great school and it never fails to amaze me

Aspirare, that is SO weird! Last night I spent way too much time reading through the Dartmouth ED 2017 thread, from about 11/30/12 til decisions. I “fast forwarded” through a lot of angst, but got to know the usernames and was dying to find out who got in and who didn’t. I was surprised at how many didn’t… I vividly remember your name! I was wondering if any of the deferred kids eventually got in, but assumed they were totally done with that thread, never to post there again.

How have you liked it there so far? I had been thinking my son had a decent shot, but now I’m not so sure at all. I’m thinking he may need to start thinking about some other essays. He applied to UVa EA, so at least there’s another app out there and done, but actually UVa is really hard to get into from our high school, so it is also a reach. Maybe not a HMFR, but still a reach. (you have to dig way back into the fall of 2012 of the Parents of the hs class of 2013 thread to find what that acronym stands for! )

RainbowUmbrella - The interviews are based on the availability of alumni in the area, so I’m thinking the chances of having an alum live close enough to you for an interview may be slim. But Dartmouth does not hold that against you at all.

My son’s interview went well. I wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall to make sure he was engaging (he’s a pretty quiet kid) and interesting, but I have to just go on what he said. He was happy with it and I guess that’s all that matters.

hss2014, I learned last night from reading last year’s ED thread that an e-mail will come out that tells the applicants the exact day and time and how to log onto the portal. Aspirare will know those details! Last year the decisions came out on December 6th. I would love if that were the case this year, but who knows with the extension. Though last year had the hurricane extension, so maybe it still WILL be early. Are they actually being considerate to those who will now have to write tons of essays in 3 weeks during the holidays? ;)

Woo! Come to dartmouth! We love you!!!

has anyone called or asked about the decision date

Does everyone get an interview?
If you don’t get an interview, does that in any way decrease your chances of being accepted?

Curious, no - everyone does not get an interview. It depends on whether there are available alums local to you. They made it clear in our info session that it does not hurt you if you are not contacted for an interview, nor does it mean anything bad if you are not contacted. If you go to Dartmouth’s Common Data Set you can find how much Dartmouth weighs each part of the application. The interview is just “considered” if you have one. Hope this helps.

I think we are just going to wait for the email that tells the decision date.

DD never interviewed. It was all about the grades, essay, ec’s, and getting everything in on time. You will be notified by computer late in the afternoon probably while in class or during your after school activity. You will not sleep well the night before because you will be sitting on pens and needles waiting on the outcome.
Good Luck :)

I want to know how International students are rated since we are not eligible to mention any of the much famed scholarship exams that Americans can avail. I have applied for Dartmouth ED. Will 2280 in SAT and 2400/2400 (PCM) work to my favour? Or more is expected? I have multiple honours and prizes of national reach and these do not come easy sicne my nation has a billion people in it.

The decision last year was December 6th. The email came in at about 3:55 p.m. that day and that’s when you know. My DS received the award letter about an hour later. Good luck! Wherever you end up, you’ll do great!

somehow im sitting on pens and needes already…
how can i possibly survive till 6th lol

I will be much indebted if someone rates my chances for Dartmouth based on this information. I am an ED candidate, who has already submitted his application.

Asian (India) applying as an international.

SAT Subjects - 800 Math Level 2, 800 Physics, 800 Chemistry (2400)
AP courses : Not formally offered in my country and in my national syllabus. (Tell you what, there was nothing stopping me from straight 5’s if I had been given a chance. Unfortunately, missed out on these credentials)

School report:
Top 10% of class. There is no GPA system in my country. It is all marks.
(It is unfortunate if my counsellor has not further explained as I am in top 3 of class)

Essays - I am proud regardless of the outcome. Recos: I am respected and liked for my abilities by my teachers, Other recommendation - this is my absolute favourite, almost a character analysis

I will be much grateful if someone has a say in the matter

You go to school in Australia? Is your citizenship Australian? Everything looks good except your CR score, which if you have been schooled in English…no excuses. Or am I misunderstanding the U of NSW reference?

I have no idea how to weigh an international application. The competition is beyond fierce.

Dartmouth is probably the most Internatinal-friendly of the Ivies, which still makes it competitive as heck. (The other Ivies tend to receive more international apps.)

good luck.

Does anyone know the official early decision release date?

oh I cannot wait to know the date too! I really hope this wait could end soon…I’m from mainland china…my sat score is 2240(780 maths, 740 cr, 720writing) sat2 physics800 maths2 800 world history630…in the best normal high school of my province…no ap courses…we still had to take toefl! but i did fairly well in that 116 out of 120…i kinda hope school will consider that…

I am from India, schooled in English. UNSW has a special exam for Indian students…
Yeah, the CR I wrote was pretty hard, probably the hardest recorded in recent SAT history. (recycled US SAT 2011)
It is pretty unrealistic to expect the admission officers to connect with a radically different culture. I dont mind rejection on grounds of testing (which is btw not Dartmouths policy) What really disgusts me is denial on grounds of certain fancy EC’s. Perhaps my application doesnt indicate it but my principles are way too profound to resort to this “Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none” mentality. Whatever little ECs i have, they have a deep relevance to me and I have found reasonably deep success.
An ideal student is a person who has the intellectual hunger to use Dartmouths magnificent resources and contribute to science as a whole (which is where all the hard knowledge is). i believe I can be that guy. My stream is STEM, my forte, my domain. I do not aspire to be a literary critic. And those who wrote the November SAT will tell you 690 is not atrocious either. (National Percentile 95)
