Dartmouth College Class of 2022 ED Discussion!

@Answermyq! they just said BY december 15, not ON. easy to get it mixed up lol!

@“Answermyq!” I found out via email (I am an alumni interviewer). @campbellsoup is correct - it’s by and not on December 15. And just so you know, that date is not carved in stone - they have pushed it back by a day or two in the past. I doubt they will this year because the 16th is a Saturday, but who knows. I was responding to a question on another thread. Regardless, at some point between December 8-11, admissions will email you the exact date and time decisions will be released. If history is any guide, then it will be at 4 PM.

@reinian18 I was contacted initially by my alumni interviewer through my phone number!

@Shrmpngrtz Just curious, as an alumni interviewer, do you know how much the dartmouth admissions committee considers interviews?

@alex2901 Unfortunately, I have no special insight for you, but here is a nugget of info that was provided to us recently…Last year, 90% of the kids who did interviews and were accepted, had received superior reports from the alumni interviewer. With that said, a lot of kids who receive great reports don’t get in - I know this because the regional alumni coordinators get bombarded with complaints from alumni interviewers. The way that I look at this is that if you have a horrible interview…that’s not a good sign. If you have a great interview, then breathe a sigh of relief, but don’t assume anything. Best of luck to you.

@Shrmpngrtz man i was hoping it’d be earlier than the 15th! lol! and idk if you’re allowed to tell us this, but how are interviews scored? im assuming superior is the highest, but what does that constitute?

My husband is also an alumni interviewer, and if I remember correctly, it’s a rating scale of 1 to 5. With 5 being superior, plus he writes a blurb about his impressions of the candidate. Shrmpngrtz can probably clarify.

@oscar63 @cambellssoup There are 6 different rankings based on how we think the candidate will contribute to Dartmouth. IMHO, the top 2 are both superior. As for the written section of the report, there are four sections plus a summary.

@Shrmpngrtz just so I understood it correct - you found out about decision date directly via email since you are an interviewer, right ?because I don’t think they have communicated anything to applicants yet.
Also do interviewers communicate such thingsctonstudebtsctgry interview ?

Sorry for the typo - I mean do interviewers communicate such feed back to students they had interviewed ?

@butukh Yes, you are correct - I got an email from admissions because I am an alumni interviewer. Don’t read anything into it if you haven’t heard anything from your interviewer. I interviewed my ED candidates, submitted my reports, and now I’m just answering questions that I see pop up on this forum.

@shrmpngrtz Thank you

My interviewer called my superintendent to get more information on me for his recommendation, is that typical?

Hey everyone. Are u going to apply for other Ivy schools other than Dartmouth (if you don’t get in as Dartmouth ED)?

@sophiamodugno I don’t think it is typical at all. However, I don’t think it is wrong. To me it shows an interviewer that is taking his job seriously and trying to give the college the best assessment of you. It is also possible that the interviewer knew the superintendent already.

2 weeks (about) … yikes.

Very nervous

I am still deciding if I am going to go through with my applications for the other Ivy’s if I don’t get into Dartmouth… This whole waiting process has made me dread thinking about even starting those apps. It’s a problem. lol

yeah… i just today finished with all my other college essays so if i don’t get in i can just submit them right away. i’ve planned to apply to a couple other ivies, but if i don’t get in ed to dartmouth then i don’t have high hopes for others.

@Seungheehan1 My son is a sophomore at Dartmouth and was never offered an interview.
