Hello there! I was just wondering how difficult Dartmouth would be to transfer to (I’d most likely be looking at it for my sophomore year, but it can also be my junior year). I’d be looking to study English and minoring in Classics. Thanks ahead of time for any input!
Dartmouth is highly selective for freshman admissions and even more selective for transfers. Did you apply for freshman admissions? Where would you be transferring from?
VERY difficult. I know a kid who transferred into D’mouth from Pomona, but it’s very hard to do and D’mouth doesn’t take a ton of transfers.
@woogzmama I didn’t apply for freshman admission and I’d be transferring from Great Bay Community College (which is located in Portsmouth, NH).
You’ve asked about ND, UMich and other Ivies. For Cornell and UMich, they favor in-state transfers above the rest. For the others, to be viable, the schools will look at your HS record. Generally, they accept transfers from schools of similar selectivity unless extenuating circumstances occur. But as a rule of thumb, if you were a viable admit as a graduating senior, have a practically spotless college record, and can voice a compelling reason why that target school is fantastic for both you and the school – then you have a small chance. If you weren’t a fantastic HS student, your app will be lost amongst the many with fantastic records. Are you at your community college due to finances or other circumstances? What sorts of 4 year colleges accpeted you as a HS senior? That will be somewhat indicative of your current transfer chances.
@T26E4 I was accepted to Merrimack College (North Andover, MA) in 2014, didn’t feel it was right for me, and then went on to GBCC, where I’m currently at. I didn’t really apply to too many colleges/universities. And no, finances had nothing to do with either.
Then to the second part of my query: how were your stats (GPA, ACT/SAT) coming out of HS? Were you viable then, to be accepted to schools like Dartmouth, Cornell, ND, U-Mich? If not, then your chances now are almost non-existant, I’m sorry to report.
