Hey everyone. I'm new to CC and I'm going to Dartmouth this fall. I wanted to know if anyone knew what type of computer (like specs and software) would be needed to be compatible with the Dartmouth network. I heard that Windows 7 is required, but the Home version does not work. Is that really true or is there a way to use Home version and still connect to the Dartmouth network?

you can connect with any version of windows 7, vista, or xp, any Mac OS (at least any that you’d likely have in the last 10 years), and w/ a Linux machine. Your computer won’t be an issue in connecting to the network.

really? because the school computer ppl told me that only windows 7 works, and they want you to have professional or ultimate. they said they have to make some tweaks to home edition to make it work. idk. so are/were you a student there?

yes

I know several people who have used Windows 7 Home Edition.

Here’s some info on support for windows at dartmouth. It’s worth a call to find out what’s best. The people are quite helpful.

I use a Mac, so I don’t know about Windows 7 support. But if you do need Windows 7 Professional, you can get an upgrade for $30 (students only). It will work as long as you already have a valid Windows 7 Home on your computer. As far as hardware goes, anything works. IT is pretty good about getting your computer to connect to the network.
