Shawshank Redemption.

tylrrvera, how strange it seems to me that you would find the subject of how Dartmouth determines whom it accepts and whom it rejects…especially on a thread dedicated to the Dartmouth decision process and status…SOOOO boring. Instead, you suggest that all folks on this thread have an “interesting conversation”. And what is the vital topic of conversation? Why, favorite movies! What’s next: favorite colors? “You would think that applicants to an ivy league would be able to maintain some sort of interesting conversation.”

So far…no such luck.

Try again.

Until then, here is a subject for consideration: Why do high school students in the United States continue to suffer from declining standardized test scores and academic performance when compared to so many other industrial nations, and how can the U.S. reverse this crippling trend?

Happy Thanksgiving.

toombs, I am not going to apologize for attempting to start a conversation on a topic other the Dartmouth admissions process, when, for most of the participants in this thread, our applications have already been submitted. We can sit in front of our computers attempting to surmise the exact formula Dartmouth admissions officers use when considering our applications, but in the end, what precisely will this accomplish? Evident by the above posts, when a new topic was brought up, this thread saw the highest number of posts in a given amount of time ever.

We have but 21 days left, and I have NO desire to spend them reiterating the same speculations and ideas about the admissions process. It is truly too late for these discussions, and considering them now can change nothing. Thus, I have suggested we talk about something else, and notice that it was not me who brought up the most recent topic. If you do not wish to participate in this, then don’t. But do not criticize me or anyone else for wanting to have a little fun.

Happy Thanksgiving as well.

Haha that was such a rude interjection. I thought the movie post was a good idea, and we got some good stuff. The conversation thus far has been pretty dull, but that’s probably because we’re all worrying about the same stuff and no one here has definitive answers. Interviews are over, applications are submitted, and with few exceptions, all we can do is maintain conversation and try to get to know our perspective classmates.
Just saw Harold and Maude - awesome movie, requiem for a dream, zoolander.

Happy Thanksgiving!

toombs is a downer

My Name is Khan, Inception, and Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind. I could watch those movies a billion times.

Happy Turkey Day, everyone!

I still want to know when decisions will be released! I’m hoping they are released on the 9th. In the past they have been released around then. Does anyone know when they will release the exact date?

Dartmouth says on or before the 15th, so who knows! With the extended due date as a result of the crazy east coast weather fiasco, they may need every last minute. Hard to say.

Good idea toombs… Why don’t we share our favorite colors? Mine’s blue.

hey prospies! i’m a '15 (first-year student) at dartmouth currently, so i’d love to help answer any questions you may have. i noticed a bunch of you were debating over what date decisions will be released. last year, ED notification (they email you to say exactly what date and time the decisions will come out) was on december 6th, and then decisions were released on december 10th at 4 p.m. good luck to all of you! dartmouth is the best school ever, you made the right choice deciding to apply here :)

Good to know, thekeggy. Thanks for the info! :)

Hey leggy,

What classes have you taken as a freshman? Did you have a lot of flexibility in choosing them?

I was combing through some older Dartmouth ED Result threads and I stumbled upon this horrid little nugget…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/dartmouth-college/613175-shock-awe-compiling-results.html#post1061430941

WARNING: If you don’t want to feel terrible about your chances, don’t click the link.

The thing is, these numbers have no context, ya know? Who knows what their recs, essays, and extra-curriculars were like. Yeah, it’s a numbers game, but the numbers don’t mean much without the rest of the application.

It’s not over til it’s over, I say. :)

True, but I just think that it provides some confirmation of the idea that the entire admissions process is just a crapshoot.

Its also just kind of scary to think that students with such excellent scores are getting rejected. but like you said, no context, so how much does that mean…

Crapshoot is definitely the name of the game, tylrrvera. Hundreds (heck, thousands!) of qualified students are rejected by Dartmouth and its peer institutions every year. We’ve all applied ED because it’s our first choice, but even if Dartmouth doesn’t want us, I have no doubt that we will all be successful wherever we end up.

Let’s hope I’m this optimistic if the 15th brings me a rejection! ;)

All the Dartmouth students that I know are awesome. But I know a great deal of other awesome people who applies to Dartmouth ( in the previous years) who got rejected.

But anyway we cannot control that Just give it our best shot and see how it goes.
And yeeyy Nov 27 finally. Just two weeks to go people

Best of luck for all of us :)

So if worse comes to worse on December 15th, what other schools is everyone looking to apply to?
