@jkennyy i believe in past years you receive an email stating that the status of your application has changed, and then you have to log into the portal to actually check whether you’ve been accepted/deferred/denied
@dartagnaneb Yeah I asked when are the ed results out but I guess they just looked at last year’s date.
Also, an acceptance letter will look like this:

There will be a gigantic scrolling “Congratulations” and some confetti will appear, alongside the letter.
^^^I hope to see one of those with my name on it!!
@harry6199 same
So definitely the 14th?! eek!
Did anyone else receive an email from the FA office stating “your application is currently incomplete”? I’m a little worried, as I logged into my account and noticed a new form showed up under the required documents (Before, all my FA forms were checked off as received). Anybody know if this can affect my FA award? I practically “completed” my FA application less than two weeks before the deadline.
@geisel1797 I suggest you call FA and see what’s the issue. No one here can guess at or attend to this mystery.
Hey guys. I’m currently a 20 (freshman) at Dartmouth. To answer some of your questions:
On December 14th at 4 pm an update will appear on your application status page. It will read something similar to “an update has been made to your application on December 14th.” You click on that link and it will bring you to your decision page. I think they change around the acceptance letters from year to year, but last year the acceptance letter had a big congratulations on top and confetti. A deferral and rejection letter are just normal letters.
They do send you an email when your application is updated, but that’s delayed. It’s better to just refresh the application status page at 4:00.
Lastly, I was deferred last year in the ED round and then later accepted RD. If you are deferred don’t lose hope.
If you have any additional questions about the ED process or Dartmouth in general feel free to ask and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability.
May I ask, if I’m deferred, am I allowed to update my application? I have some changes to make as I just received a new award from my school.
Thank you
Yes, you do have the ability to send them an update with new awards and other achievements.
I called the FA office and they told me that the deadlines for FA are pretty lenient, the lady stated that I can apply any time before the fall semester if I receive admittance.
does anyone know approximately how many students are deferred?
Via the CommonApp portal or via email?
@b1ggreenca Thanks a lot dear! I actually was invited and had a Skype interview this past Wednesday! It was amazing, btw
@DucTahn I would do both. But, you have the ability to update your application at any time on the Dartmouth Application Status Page. On the bottom of that page you should have an option to upload a word document or PDF file. You use that medium to update your file with additional information.
@dartagnaneb Admission rate for ED was actually 25.6% last year!
@justwaitingtoo yeah but you have to take out all the recruited athletes and legacies.
@airbubble415 how many of them do you think there are? Also, are legacies guaranteed a spot?
Which of you guys’ CommonApp Recommenders/FERPA section says “downloaded” for optional report? Did anyone get asked to send first trimester grades from Dartmouth?
@kairos123 I think most people’s counselors don’t have to send the optional report?
