yah its normally the 2nd thursday. covid and its effects would be the only reason this would change!
How many more applicants do you think the school received this year compared to normal?
I would think A LOT more because test scores are not a barrier this year (at least if the increases in applications at other top schools are any indication). Let’s face it. Between gap year deferrals and increased applications, this is a tough, uncertain year to be applying anywhere that’s highly selective.
Which schools have released their statistics for applications received this year?
Not sure. I know of UVA, UNC, Duke… to name just a few. There’s also been some commentary about Brown and Cornell that has sounded legitimate. And, of course, there are lots of rumors about lots of other places. What all of this means, at least for this specific discussion, should be clear in the next couple of weeks…
Has everyone gotten your login to the Dartmouth applicant portal. I have gotten nothing and am concerned.
I received my login information the same day I applied ED.
Me too.
I would think schools like Cornell and UPenn (Ivies commonly seen as easier to get into) would definitely have an increase in EDs but I’m not sure about Dartmouth. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I think Dartmouth is so small and gets way less applicants compared to other schools in general that this year may not be any different. Also, only about 10 students deferred their acceptance to our class due to COVID according to an admission officer I talked to so I wouldn’t get too worried about that.
I think that there will be an increase in ED applicants this year to Dartmouth but hopefully it won’t be as drastic as other schools are reporting. We can only hope at least.
14.9% of the Class of 2024 took gap years, based on what Dartmouth reported in December.
Yeah I read that too haha
And that 14.9% takes spots for the class of 2025?
Or 172 according to a published source, which seems more likely.
Gap year numbers increase five-fold for Class of 2024 | The Dartmouth.
Probably in large part. Supposedly, Dartmouth admitted a fair number of transfer students to fill some of the void. But there are so many variables. Are just as many athletes being admitted? What if some took gap years? Might that not use up some roster spots? Just an example. (Optimism might not get anyone in, but it could help keep everyone a little more sane while awaiting the news.)
Idk about athletes taking gap years, but less athletes will be recruited this year because of how Dartmouth cut so many sports teams this past summer. Also though, since so many high school class of ‘20 students from last year (172! That’s like, what, a tenth of a typical entering class?) deferred enrollment, and since dartmouth has a bit of a housing crisis, they literally can’t accept more of us.
Nevermind, it’s more than a seventh of a typical incoming class. That’s even worse.
praying they accept the same amount of ED applicants and just cut down in the RD round… not probable but a girl can dream lmao
Maybe they will. Because at least they know those ED students are committed to the school, and that they are very enthusiastic about attending Dartmouth.
I’m literally not going to sleep for the next few days. I’m reallyyyyyyyyyy hoping I wake up to an email announcing that decisions will be out on Thursday at 4pm.
