Hey guys,
I started this thread for all applicants who were deferred, ED 2017. Maybe we can all comfort each other and talk about ways to strengthen our applications. The community we had was so strong on ED Application thread, so I'd like to continue that here.

I’m going to be honest, I thought I had a pretty good chance with my scores and ECs which were decent. They weren’t amazing ECs, but I felt that they were relatively strong. In terms of my essay, I thought that was decent as well. I just really want to know why they felt I wasn’t worthy of an acceptance. I’m going to see what my guidance counselor can find out about that.

But, as of right now, we still have a chance!

Yeah same here magentaturtle. I am entirely grateful that we still have a fighting chance… the most important part is that they know we’re interested.

What are you thinking about submitting to strengthen your application?

I have no idea? What could I possibly submit? I think I will just submit something later on to express my continued interest in Dartmouth. I don’t anticipate anything major in terms of awards or anything from now until January-ish, when it is recommended to send in more information.

Yeah same with me… no winter sports that I participate in… no national awards to get. I am at a standstill-what can I do? I guess I’ll get another recommendation, maybe write another essay about interest.

Are you retaking any tests?

No in terms of retaking tests. I don’t think I didn’t get in because of my test scores. Like I said, I’m going to have to see what my guidance counselor has to say.

ahaha well I got 590 on my SAT2 USH, which might have been the reason of my deferral, but I’m not going to retake that… might be too late for it, and I’d rather work on something else.
I honestly expected a rejection or a deferral, although I can’t deny that I also hoped for an acceptance. Seeing CC and so many awesome people who got flat out denied, I don’t see why I was not denied at the lowest tier. Whatevs.
I take deferral as an euphemistic rejection, but that’s just me because I probably won’t update my application (as nothing to update beside my mid-year grade reports, which aren’t great anyways). I’m considering to send an essay, but I’m not sure if they’ll read it.
Well guys, I hope that you guys are not that heartbroken. I mean, I really just expected a rejection so that I don’t get that heartbroken. and also, I see this as an opportunity to go through an adventure called “Regular Decision.” I think it will be fun (depends on how many supplement essays I have to write…haha…), and rejection/deferral is also a valuable lifetime experience, don’t cha think?

Hopefully my 2nd quarter grades don’t tank…

My D would’ve been happy with a Deferral. she knew it was a reach, but there were kids who laughed in her face when she told them Dartmouth was her first choice. A deferral with a later rejection would’ve at least saved face until she accepted elsewhere.

@OldMan95 You know, I usually am of the mind that it is ridiculous and immature to lie about college results/other college-related things in the process. However, if kids are actually going to treat your daughter poorly for having been rejected, maybe she would feel more comfortable saying she got deferred and then quietly letting people assume she got rejected come March (not necessarily bringing it up herself, but to answer if anyone asks her upfront).

Deferred as well. Have so many supplements to do! I really shouldn’t have waited till now to start… ughh

@OldMan95, I am really sorry to hear that. No kid should have to go through that stuff… those kids so cruel. Anyway, I hope your daughter finds another school that she loves just as much/more than Dartmouth.

I’m starting to forget I even applied to Dartmouth… idk if that is good or bad

Does anybody know why there have been so few acceptances from deferred in RD lately?

Idk it might be more clear when they officially post stats

Probably to allow for more flexibility in the RD round - the AO’s don’t know whether to expect a decrease (like in the ED round) or an increase in the RD round (because RD applicants might think that because there was a decrease in ED, there may be less competition), so we’re pretty much ‘backup’ for them to choose from. Sucks, really.

I got accepted!!!

Thats so depressing. Dartmouth needs to realize how much we’d love to attend if given the chance. If they’re loosing numbers, it’s only smart on their part to accept kids who actually want to go to their school.

@Cirroalex, congrats! You deserve it. Enjoy the next for years, you’ve earned it!

Oh sorry posted in wrong thread
