Congrats cirroalex :)

@barvoets, I agree! I think it’s quite unfair on us how they’re deferring so many candidates whose first choice is Dartmouth. It’s almost as if they’re saying we’re not quite good enough to get into their school, but they’ll keep us handy just in case they don’t have better applicants RD round. Oh well. I’m devastated but maybe this way we’ll find schools that are better fit for us, well at least I’m trying to force myself to think that way.

Yeah, well the way I see it is that honestly, it’s their loss. Sure, we have a small chance at still going but they’ve showed us that we’re not their top choice. So I agree with you, I think it’s time we move on… but still keep Dartmouth in our periphery.

Yup Time to start RD supplements! See you around :)

Good luck!

Thanks, you too!

In past years how many differed students were admitted during regular decision?

Also what percentage were accepted Ed ,deferred and denied?

Trying to decide if it’s worth waiting or if we should ed2 middlebury

Help us

If I remember correctly only around 9% of deferred applicants were later admitted. Also the competition’s bound to be tougher in the defer pool because all applicants have already made the first cut. But there is a little hope. I guess it depends on how much you like Middlebury in comparison to Dartmouth.

I woke up today, a lot sadder than i was last night… still can’t believe that I got deferred

Also, @babyhaha I would say that if you like Midd enough you should definitely ed2 there… It’s a much better chance and I would say it is wise to take your chance with Midd then to wait around with Dartmouth

I got my decision early on in the morning (6am) so spent the entire day moping around. Hopefully tomorrow will be productive - really need to work on my RD supplements!

Thanks Anon. once again good advice and thank you. baro- she has (4) other schools that she applied EA, (6) that she applied RD to and 2 - 5 more that she will be applying RD. Even though she applied ED to D, we knew it was a reach. So next week she should start hearing back on the EA schools and should get fired up again. One of her EA schools she (and I) liked almost as much as Dartmouth - she even noted that if she didn’t get into Dartmouth she was going to that school.

This was a good experience for her because she wasn’t interested in the whole concept of college until we visited Dartmouth. The heavens parted and the hand of God came down and pointed to the campus while a heavenly voice said 'THIS is for YOU!"
For the first time in her life, she was excited about going to college! This has helped her gauge other schools she saw before and since our visit to D.

So while we are all disappointed at the ED (Early Denial), it has been very helpful to the process.

I hope we can keep our morale up by the time April comes around. What is everyone else sending in, besides mid-year reports? I was thinking I’d send an art supplement, maybe another recommendation…

I’m probably going to send in one more recommendation. That is all…

In terms of that recommendation though, how are you going to send it in? Are you going to have the teacher email it, if you ask a teacher?

I feel for you… last year at this time my daughter was absolutely devastated after being deferred from Dartmouth! Please stay positive, I truly believe that things happen for the best. It will just take a little longer for you to realize that…

I’m sure many of you are just like my daughter - smart, well-rounded, sports captain, tons of community service, etc. My daughter was valedictorian, had almost a perfect SAT in one sitting, perfect SAT II subject tests, national merit finalist, all sorts of academic distinctions, you name it… People that know her were shocked that she wasn’t accepted! Everyone would ask if she didn’t get in, who does get in? I’m sure most of you are also very talented, but, unfortunately, this time around you were not rewarded for all of your hard work like you are accustomed too. Getting into the Ivies/elites is a whole different ballgame. It is a tough life lesson but one that you will definitely learn from and you will be stronger for.

My biggest piece of advice is to put Dartmouth behind you. I’m sure you know your chance of getting in RD is very slim. Let your wounds heal, keep your chin up, and finish those other applications and essays you now have to submit. A couple months after being deferred, before the other acceptances started flowing in, my daughter said if she got into Dartmouth she wasn’t even sure she still wanted to go there. She also loved finding out the acceptance results of the other schools she applied to, something she never would have known. She only applied to one other ivy, Princeton, and was rejected from there which she kind of expected. She was ultimately rejected from Dartmouth but she got into many other wonderful schools including a couple considered “elite”. She was offered generous merit scholarships at schools that offered them. Then one day she received a phone call and was offered a four year merit scholarship to a school that doesn’t usually offer merit scholarships. She was thrilled and accepted their offer as it was one of her top choices and the scholarship made it a no-brainer!

Now it is a year later and she has said she is actually glad she got deferred-she is so happy and says she couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

Good luck to all of you! It may not seem possible right now, buy one year from now, I bet you too will be very happy wherever you decide to go!!

Thanks schmoopiez! That means a lot to me :)

Hello Schmoopiez. Where did your daughter wind up going?? Thx

Geez, Washington University in STL just released their admissions letters and its making me depressed that a lot of people I know got accepted, and I’m just sitting over here deferred

Is anyone else actually happy/optimistic, even though they got deferred?
I’m grateful that I’m getting a second chance. I appreciate the opportunity that has been given to me. :P

Has anyone gotten in anywhere else?

I’ve gotten in Notre Dame. How about you?
