So I visited Dartmouth back around New Years and loved it. I think I actually go back to do an actual tour/info session. I'm definitely going to apply in the fall, and I'm thinking about doing ED. What would my chances be for Early Decision? (also recommendations are welcome). And I'll chance back if you'd like.

Your stats are pretty strong, so I’d say you have a great shot at Dartmouth… Especially if you go ED…

Good luck! :)

SAT is definitely high enough, but GPA might be an issue. If you get a 34+ ACT score, that will make them care a lot less about the 3.87 UW GPA.

I’d really work on the CR score, it’s not competitive for Dartmouth.

GPA issue is kind of weird…for some full year classes, my school doesn’t calculate a final grade on the transcript, just lists both semesters (Notably AP Classes). So if they did calculate final grades for these classes, I’d have a 4.0. I think I got a B+ in a semester of AP Physics (Then an A second semester), B+ in 1st semester english last year (A+ second semester), and then two similar scenarios freshman year.

Also, I took an ACT practice test with proper timing and got a 35, we’ll see what the actual test results are. Interestingly, while SAT CR isn’t my strong suit, I got a 36 on the ACT reading…

Clarification: The lowest grade I’ve earned is a 89 (B+), one for the first semester of AP Chem, one for the first semester of AP Physics and 2 from freshman year. Everything else is A range.

Since you’re a URM, I’d say you have a really good shot. Work hard on your essays, and you should be accepted.

Have fun at Dartmouth ;).

In all seriousness, I think your charity seems really unique and cool and relates to your heritage. Your scores are within the middle 50%. You are a URM and you’re applying ED.
Your chances are very high, but again there aren’t any certainties in college admissions.

Your EC’s and GPA are too weak, honestly. Sorry, bro. Apply to a weaker school. Dartmouth isn’t up your alley.

^ Don’t listen to this guy. Your URM status, great test scores, good GPA, and solid EC’s give you quite a strong chance at Dartmouth, especially ED.

You guys are seriously over estimating the impact of being part Hispanic. Full Hispanic isn’t much of a boost these days as there are lots of highly qualified Hispanic candidates. Any real boost goes to low income, first gen, inner city Hispanics.

I’m not going in with any expectation of my ethnicity having any bearing on my admissions decision. It’s just a piece of who I am.

^ Refusing to acknowledge that your ethnicity will give you a boost in college admissions is just willful ignorance. Of course it’s part of who you are; it will also help you get into college. Waverly, OP’s stats are high enough that he has a good chance anyway. That plus the URM boost gives him a very good chance for admittance, especially ED.
