Good recs and essay

wow, i already know 4 people with 1600 SAT who are applying to Dartmouth ED

But stats and grades are only one component, there are still essays, recommendations, peer reviews and how Dartmouth is looking to put together the class of 09.

IN an article in the dartmouth last week it has been suggested to reduce the incoming class to 1000 students

I completely agreed with the article when I read it, despite not having experienced the pressures of a 1075-strong class.

Personally, knock it down to 500 and it would be my dream school. ;)

I think Dartmouth deserves a higher ranking in U.S. News.

Just mailed my app this week!

Legacy

I thought I had a good chance, but jeez... lots of high scorers...

Just get the application done, write some good essays, and try not to think about it too much. You'll be fine.

Any EDers below 1500?

I know one from St. Louis who's going in with 1450.

"going in?" or "got in"

this is crazy right now because the SAT average of the five ED applicants is 1570. I wonder how Dartmouth gets its 1460 SAT average. cause of recruiting?

The Dartmouth website said that the average SAT of the class of '08 was 1432. The people on this thread do have high SATs, but don't worry. Half of the people at Dartmouth have under 1432, and I doubt that half of the Dartmouth student body is made up of URMs/legacies/athletes. Most of those "special cases" have high SATs, anyways, so it's not like a ton of them are "dragging" down the average SAT.

From the Dartmouth website...

Students of Color: 30.8% (17.8% Black/Latino/NA/Multiracial)

Over 3/4 of Dartmouth students participate in a sport to some degree... I'd imagine there is an adequate percent of recruited athletes. This year, 129 legacies were admitted... if 100 matriculated (and this could be considered an average per class), then nearly 10% of the school is comprised of legacy students.

Now these 3 overlap, but I am pretty sure they would total over 50%.
