Dartmouth Ed

According to Dartmouth's office of Institutional Research:

61% of dartmouth students (07) scored between 1400 and 1600
28.9 % scored between 1200-1399
7.2 scored between 1000-1199
.5 scored between 800-999

Still, I would think that the SATs of many URMs would be near average, if not above. I would also think that many of the legacies come from highly educated families, so they're scores should be above the average. I am not a student there (hopefully next year, though), so I really can't speak for the school. I'm sure there are loads of brilliant URMs, legacies, and athletes applying, though.

Do you think that there are that many people who get in to your school using their URM/legacy/athlete status, and in doing so bring down the average sat? I would like to think not, but I really don't know.

Lim you are correct as we should not be making assumptions about who got what score. In the end, Dartmouth has a 96% graduation rate and is not so hard pressed for URM's , Athletes, legacies that they will need to take someone who would not be successful because it definitely would not help their cause.

I know one parent whose son was a recruited athlete and scored over 1500

Me, we don't have GPAs but my record is strong, 1570, 2 varsity sports, lot's of EC's/community service, double legacy. Many other legacies and athletes also applying from my school though. Not to mention URMs. All have great grades. Damn!

what school you from? and you applying ED huh?

NH prep school.

I'm trying with a 1450 :(.

Don't worry. I'd have a 1450 if I hadn't retaken and gotten a miracle. :-)

nevermind...32424

how many early applicants does Dartmouth normally get?

They usually get 1200 ED apps (in 2007 they got 1216). One third are usually admitted (397 admitted in 2007), one third are usually deferred (5-10% of these people are later admitted), and one third are flat-out rejected.

what the hell are those scores man?
everyone seems to have perfect sat scores.

I think it's generally harder to get in as an international applicant, not easier. Good luck, though. ^.^

ED Applicant: 1330 (650V, 680 M), retaken in Nov, thinking 1400-1450
SATiis: Chem 680, Writ: 630, U.S. His: 660
top 10% of class

feeling confident :-)

DD finally got her ED status confirmed (don't ask, just send it in all together next year!)
1540 (800V,740M), USHis 770,Bio 740, Writing 740
ACT - 34 comp

"don't ask, just send it in all together next year"

what do you mean by this?

The Dartmouth app has a "pre-app" and then the Common Application. She sent in the pre-app, with Early Decision marked, in Sept sometime. Her high school likes to have all ED forms go through the counselor's office, so the actual signed form didn't go out until about a week before the ED deadline, with the rest of her materials.
Early in Oct she received a letter from D'mouth admissions saying her pre-app had been received and her file was begun for RD. SHe was a little upset, but Admissions assured her that her status would be changed when the signed declaration was received - well it took about 3 weeks, but they did finally update her status!
The moral is - send the ED form with the pre-app, or send it all in together - you'll still get an interview!

eek...loosens collar

I hope they don't decide to defer or reject me until my new SATs are received...I feel they were much higher! Heh, but they can feel free to go right ahead and accept me today...hint,hint Dartmouth adcoms! (j/k)

i sent the preapp and ed form on sept and common app on nov1. the same prob here
i received a letter dated oct 22 just day before yesterday day saying that i was being considered for the regular decision. what do you suggest i do.
i have sent a fax and loads of emails but no replies. what should i do?
