hey guys, in my school i know a guy that applied ED who is (one of) the biggest jerks that ever lived. i hope for your sakes that he doesn't get accepted because frankly, he will bring down the image of dartmouth

(prays this attitude comes out in his recommendations)

Abhay, has anyone called you for an alumni interview? That's how my daughter found out her status had changed - they notified the alumni interviewer. She didn't tell me though, and yesterday, I called the college counselor office at her school to ask when would they recommend calling admissions. The counselor called for us (gets around that question of should the parent call).
That's a long way of saying call, although, this seems to be standard procedure for them, and it took a little over 3 weeks for her status to change, and they have not sent an E-mail or note or anything else.

Her alumni interview is today and she's extremely stressed about it, the time had to be changed because of a conflict the interviewer had and now it conflicts with some things going on at school, so basically its all Mom's fault (we insisted that she reschedule the interview, she just cancelled it). I'm sure you never have that problem at your house.

So, do you think that I, the applicant, or possibly my parents should call the admissions office to inquire? Or should I just ask my guidance counselor to call.

Also, does anyone know if the admissions office reviews a deferred application before mailing it out (if perhaps the decision was made in late october, early november, but signifcantly higher SAT scores were submitted since then, etc.)?

If you get deferred, you automatically get carried over to the RD pool and will get a decision on April 1. Then you would have to send in your midyear grades , additional SAT scores and any other relevant information that you want the admissions committee to know about

Werd814, if you can, you should call. It is difficult for my daughter to make any calls at school (they have no available long distance, aren't supposed to have cell phones, etc). I was asking the GC should we call and she volunteered to do it - why don't you ask the GC first, when a good time to call would be.

I disagree- call on your own. It's not like they're going to redflag you and be like "oh man, this person is actually interested in making sure their application is in the right spot- they must suck." Truly, they're going to take your name and folder and move it from one spot to another. I know this is a really hard process for the applicant and parent, but in retrospect...I think I worried a lot more than I should have. I really think you should call yourself because then you know it actually got done.

I just called today...they told me that my Application Status was: complete, but they could not tell me the decision (because I am the student who is being inquired about...perhaps?). Strange...or am I not supposed to be able to find out yet because it isn't the deadline?

Another question... how did your guidance counselor find out about your daughter being accepted? And, does the admissions office tell you if you've been accepted before Dec. 15, or absolutely no earlier- besides us calling them?

how did your guidance counselor find out about your daughter being accepted?

You did not read the entire thread. Her confirmation letter orginally said that she was an RD candidate when she applied ES thus need for the status change. They are not going to tell you acceptance information over the phone. Don't worry , Dec 15 will be here soon enough

Oh, sorry, Werd814, if I wasn't clear. I know at least one other person posted way back in Sept who had the same problem with ED vs RD status, and I thought others might have had the same problem. I wish we knew about the decision, but no such luck here!

rather...you should make sure that you are an intellectually competitive candidate...in other words, can you do the work...i am sure that if you are applying, there is an 80% chance that admissions would says yes to that issue...

more critical, assuming you are in the academically capable pile, how are you different and why makes you unique, why should they choose you...that is in your control and hopefully you communicated that in your app

the other stats stuff you cannot control...so dont sweat it...

This same thing happened to my daughter. They emailed her to confirm RD. She emailed in return that she applied ED. Then she received letter RD. She emailed again that she wanted ED and they confirmed ED. I guess not to efficient. Clearly , with supplement and checked ED everywhere.

so abhay, did you do well on your Chem SATIIs... you don't have to tell us...jsut ignore this question if you want :-):-P. I was just curious to find out how people did- I got a 630 writing in Oct, and if I don't get in ED, I'm retaking in Jan
