Dartmouth ED

A few questions regarding Dartmouth ED:

Does anyone know the ED acceptance rate? I think it’s 27% or so, but I’m not sure.

Does it actually improve your chances? I imagine that number is simply higher due to the legacies, athletes, etc.

Can you find out online using your user name/pin-number?

What do they send in the envelope besides the letter? (Just curious; some of my friends got t-shirts, etc. when they got into schools last year.)

Thanks

Last year's ED candidates found out online and then got a thin envelope to confirm. No shirt or ipod but during the summer parent's got a Dartmouth Parent car sticker!

hey have you got the pin as yet? I haven't got it :(

wth is the pin for? can someone tell me about this?

I guess we haven't got it as yet then.. Are you applying ED blacklantern? They give us a pin and a mini-site where we can check the status of our application and materials sent/received.

Uhh, I can't wait for Dec. 15.

yes i am. i havent turned in my ED supplement agreement form yet though so maybe thats why.

I have but i didn't get a pin as yet

My son received the pin last week but says the site isn't up yet.

how did your son get notified of his pin?

hey black lantern, I asked them and they said we'll get the pins soon; we haven't been assigned pins as yet.

I got my pin, it was through e-mail.

i got my "pin" or whatever a while ago...
it depends on how early you sent in the ED agreement as well as how many came in the same time yours did. check your email and call admissions if you don't get it in a week or two.

i just sent it today, the ed agreement.

Here is some info on Dartmouth ED rates from another CC thread:

"TheDartmouth.com | Early applications increase 11 percent from last year
For the '11s, 178 admittees in Early Decision were legacies or athletes, out of 382 total ED admits. So 178 out of 1287 applicants were not legacies or athletes, which comes out to around 13%, which is slightly, but not significantly, higher than RD numbers."

I think Dartmouth's usual percentage in ED is around 30%, though once you eliminate legacies & recruited athletes, the number is truly closer to the percentage for RD.

FYI My daughter applied ED in the fall of 2006 and though the decision date was originally Dec. 15, they actually found out on Dec. 8.

dotmom, the acceptance rate for ED without athletes is 20%, compared to the 11% of RD. I screwed up the arithmetic in the post you quoted from me.

Also, this is the link for the fall of 2007 round of early admissions:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/dartmouth-college/431796-official-dartmouth-12-early-decision-thread.html

That's cool. I hope it's on a day where I have an anomalously small amount of homework so I can devote myself to

A: celebrating
B: listening to depressing music in a dark room
C: being ambiguous and conflicted (if wait listed)

I guess I'll just post this here--are you guys sending resumes with your application? I have one, but the admissions rep I talked to told me not to send one and that they wouldn't read it. However, it seems like everyone else is. So what are you guys doing?

Just list of significant awards, or anything worth a mention, that's it.

Don't send a resume. Mention work experience on your activity sheet. Keep your activity sheet under 2 pages.
