Dartmouth email

Recently, Dartmouth sent me an email telling me that they "learned about my strong academic performance through College Board's Student Search Service for rising seniors." In addition, they told me to come check out their campus and stated, "Dartmouth may be an excellent match for you, we think you'll agree." I was kind of surprised to see such an e-mail from such a prestigious university after getting many such emails from no-name universites. Are such e-mails from Ivy League schools commonplace? Or does it mean that Dartmouth has shown a legitimate interest in me?

Basically, it is marketing, I know it is probably not their intention to be disingenuous but Dartmouth just wants you to consider them in your college search. (by the look of your screen name you could be more interested in someplace else :) )

IF you are seriously interested in Dartmouth, check them out because you are genuinely interested, but don't read a lot into the e-mail.

Last year there were over 14,000 students applying for 2100 admissions in the freshman class.
