Ummm .... i just wanted 2 know wat kind of reputation does Dartmouth engineering programme has ... ?
I know that they offer a flexible approach to it and that the whole engineering departments are linked....but is all that any good.
And also how respected is a Dartmouth engineering degree in the real world ... ?

it looks bad to the world when u start a post with "um..."

at least ask properly sheesh

Ok.

Most engineers at the top schools and Ivies end up going into finance/ consulting because its much more lucrative. So if you want to do this, Dartmouth is awesome and among the top 7 schools. BUT if you want to work at Boeing, Bosch, etc there are better options because those types of companies don't recruit from Dartmouth as heavily. Rather think Michigan, Northwestern, etc.

yo slipper...u think then that a double major in econ and engineering would be a perfect fit?...thas what i'm prolly doing as a '10

college2006 : it was stupid of me to start with "umm" . are u going to dartmouth ? Double major in econ n engg sounds pretty good .
I wud like 2 know more about it 2 ..

slipper1234: thnx for the insight ...

yeh i'm goin this year...i thk that slipper's point abt the more managerial work of engineering majors ties into what i've read and that y i thk that doing an econ major would, more or less, correlate with the engineering sciences major...

some1 tell me if i'm missing something

so will you need an extra year for your double major..... ? and also like wat are the career oppurtunities after you graduate ...

actually i figured out my classes in order to both receive a BA in engineering sciences, BE in chemical engineering, and BA in economics all in 4 years...

from what i've heard, all the top firms recruit at dartmouth...not too sure abt the specifics though

Honestly,

The engineering will help, but in no way is it a pre-requisite. My non-engineering friends have done just as well at getting the top jobs. so if you love engineering and it comes easy then do it, but don't think its necessary at all.

college2006: its awesome that you can actually do all that in 4 years ... i guess that would have impossible at other schools ...

slipper: yeah , i definitely love engg. and it comes easier 2 me than most things ... but i dont want to be in purely engineering jobs all my life ...so thats why i am looking for the economics option

slipper...prerequisite for what?

and what did u major in at dartmouth?

what if u wanted to do strict business

then just economics?
