Dartmouth Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

Hi guys! I’m a current sophomore thinking about applying to Dartmouth as a junior transfer. Here are my stats:

Current University: US News and World Report Top 25 College
Current GPA: 3.9
SAT: 2290
High school GPA: 3.5

College EC’s:

  • Worked at a financial firm this past summer and working at a different firm this spring
  • Founded an Entrepreneurship Club and student publication at my school
  • Professional Business Fraternity
  • Staff writer for the school newspaper
  • Founded a non-profit organization in high school that is still active
  • Part of the Consulting Club and Financial Group

Feel free to chance me, and good luck to everyone!

I have a 3.5 college GPA as a first semester freshman at the “sister” school. And a 3.9 high school GPA. Should I apply?

Do i have a chance at all or should i not even bother applying?
Honors program and 4.0 first semester at a large state university
3.9 GPA over all for 38 credits (from dual enrollment)
28 ACT, 3.8 uw high school gpa
A Few EC in college
Good luck to everyone applying!!

No one here is going to say “dont bother applying” and truly mean it. Make compelling essays and do your best in the Spring semester. If you can, sign up for the February ACT, which is technically “your last chance” for another score.

Can you chance me as well? All advice and comments are appreciated!

Applying for junior transfer.

Major: Economics
College: Community College in California
GPA: 4.00
ECs: 2 finance internships, 1 supply-chain internship, president and co-founder of college’s investment club, state employed tutor, treasurer at another college club, volunteer work, and provisional patent candidate
Essays: 9/10. I have many strong reasons to depart my current college for Dartmouth.

Other:
Ethnic Minority
Not applying for FA

Looks like they admitted 555 early decision instead of the usual ~500. Any thoughts on how that’ll affect our chances? I hope they still take at least ~30 transfers

@sc4 As what I have seen on CC threads from earlier years, Dartmouth does compromise with the amount of transfers they can accept based on the incoming freshman class. Sucks for us…

Hi guys! I applied to Dartmouth College as well, and ai am so stressed out! My application is complete and I am dying right niw

Applied to Dartmouth too. All we can do is wait.

Same and the wait is so nerve racking, but what will be, will be.

2 more months. Ugh… any recommendations for distractions and not stressing out? haha

Watch netflix and chill?

Hello all! I am new to cc and applying to a few schools. I figure I might as well post my stats and would love some honest feedback, no matter how harsh. I do not want to have any regrets when applying to schools. So, I am applying to schools that I know are a big reach.

Objective

HS GPA 3.0 – poor, I know:( I explain why in personal statement

MI Community College – 3.84 ( not including Mid-Term report, which is a 4.0)

Large upward trend

Fall 2015 – 3.668 (A- in Introductory french 1, but A in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)

Winter 2016 – 3.82 (A- in introductory french 2, but A later in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)

Summer 2016 – 4.0

Fall 2016 – 4.0

Winter 2016 – 4.0 on mid-term report

I have All A’s except for 3 A- and a B- in Fall 2015 in honors comp-1

I received an A in english comp-2.

My course load is very rigorous. It is as hard as it gets for a CC. Several honors courses

A’s in honors micro, honors gov, intermediate french 1, statistics, macro, and several more. I will graduate with an Associate of Arts this semester with honors.

Personal Statement

I poured my heart into it. In hs, both my parents lost their jobs, my home was foreclosed, we relied on others for housing, my family went on food stamps, and I worked at McDonald’s to support my family. I explained how this resulted in my fascination for all things related to government and as a result, wanting to major in poli sci with the intention of becoming a lawyer. I also explained how a higher education will allow me to support my mom. I think it explains my life, motives, and why I am doing what I am doing. TBH very proud of it. Overall 9.5/10 IMO

Supps
Very good! I chose the Kermit prompt.

LOR-- I have three. One from French, Econ, and head of honors program and experiential learning. I believe they are all excellent.

EC’s – I will only list college.

Work at McDonald’s for several hours a week

Elected president of leadership club.

VP of an academic club

Volunteer work with Dementia Patients

Very involved in my chabad. I’m very active in the Jewish Community

Leader of Jewish youth group

Research this summer at U of M–Ann Arbor

Again, I realize this is not a chance me thread, but would love to interact with all of you about the transfer process

Please chance me!

@Goingforclacking @greysanatomy3113 you guys make very strong applications; however, both of you didn’t write down why you want to be at Dartmouth College specifically. I hope you elaborated that well in your statements. Also, in general, are you reasons for transferring legitimate (not as in prestige, location, etc.)?

I just crunched some of the numbers that Dartmouth released (a bit haphazardly, so there’s a chance I might have made a couple mistakes) but this is what I’ve figured:

In past years Dartmouth has accepted the following (1)
2016: 500ED, 2190RD; 2690 total
2015: 482ED, 2250RD; 2732 total
2014: 471ED, 2220RD; 2691 total
2013: 463ED, 2270RD; 2733 total

This year (2017): 555ED, 2092RD; 2647 total (2, 3)

So fortunately for us, it looks like Dartmouth has accepted a record low of total applications, which one would suppose should boost our chances as transfers. But, if you look at the transfer acceptance rates, you see:

2016: 32/685 = 0.0467
2015: 29/751 = 0.0386
2014: 19/679 = 0.0280
2013: 57/883 = 0.0834

So there doesn’t seem to be any correlation between transfer acceptance rate and total applicants accepted. At the very least, I think we can take solace in the fact that transfer spots shouldn’t be sacrificed for lack of space this year.

I think it’s likely that Dartmouth is taking more waitlist applicants this year to deflate their acceptance rate, seeing as they’ve been struggling with admissions numbers in recent years. The new dean of admissions is from Tufts (see: “Tufts Syndrome”), so that makes it all the more possible.

In any case, it’s all out of our hands now so this kind of conjecture is kinda pointless, but I was curious so I thought I’d share.

Based on earlier threads, it’ll be roughly 3 weeks from today that we’ll find out guys!

Last year I got my Waitlist decision on May 12…hoping for the best!

Anyone else’s portal change? Mine did.

Still looks the same for me.
