Dartmouth - Georgetown SFS - McGill

Canadian citizen here - living in a 3rd world country. Want to major in IR/econ then go to law school - chances?

IB predicted: not announced yet, most likely will be 40-42/42
GPA out of 4: 3.2 (significant upward trend & mostly lowered by the local language i was required to take, weighted as much as all other classes combined)
SAT: 2300

ECs: typical high school stuff (student council, etc)

some outstanding things: i was president of general assembly for the biggest MUN conference in my country, published a book (collection of poetry), facilitated a youth leadership workshop for the teens here, started a poetry club at my school, and won several international awards for my literature. also helped out young children with leukemia for a year.

i have recommendation letters from two foreign ambassadors and one in the UN secretariat but i doubt i’ll be sending them as people are saying they’re unnecessary??

anyway, chances at any of the 3?

P.S. i’m also the first in my nuclear family to go to a 4-year college

I think you have a fair chance. Admission officers will understand that opportunities for extracurriculars and achievements are limited on third world countries. Your GPA will hurt though. Also, Dartmouth requires SAT 2 subject tests so you should take those as well

Is there really any substantial difference between a 3.2 and a 3.4? i.e. will it be worth waiting another semester of senior year, try to grab a 3.8-4.0, and raise my GPA to a 3.3-3.4?
