How is the Dartmouth greek scene different from your typical fraternity at a state school...and I honestly hope it is different. I've seen the usual frats at UT Austin and the people all act like idiots and everything revolves around getting wasted (constantly) and going to night clubs. Is Dartmouth's greek scene in any way "smarter" than these state schools? I aks because Dartmouth seems like a good fit all around until I find that over half of the student body is in a fraternity or sorority...which makes me think UT again. Bleh.

Honestly this was the biggest thing I had against Dartmouth until I realized the frat scene is different from other schools. Yes, there is plenty of drinking. What is very different, however, is the friendliness of the scene. No one will ask for an ID (other than prospective weekend), the whole campus is literally invited to every party, people all know each other and are super friendly. Literally, it doesn't have nearly the same amount of testosterone element other schools have. Most of the frat row frats are less "jocky" so I know plenty of people who just hung out at the houses they like. If its still too much (the drinking/ parties), remember there are still a ton of people who are greek who don't get wasted every weekend + a whole lotta non-greeks. I, for example, was in a house but most of my best friends were'nt and I hardly consider myself a big drinker. Dartmouth was the time of my life.

question: do sophomores have to go back early to start fall rush or does it start after classes start

Rush starts after classes start (about 2 to 3 weeks into the term)
