Hi all
As the title of the thread implies, I have been accepted as a sophomore transfer at Dartmouth.
The housing application has to be in (surprisingly) soon and I was hoping for some general advice about whether I can request a dorm and which dorm to request, if this is the case.
As an Australian, I have absolutely no experience with living on campus so I am looking forward to attending Dartmouth and being surrounded by my classmates. I would like to be in a middle of the range dorm: not 'Party Central' but not a 'Study Center' either. I don't know if there is a dorm that fits into such a category - probably most dorms tend to the side of being Party Central, given that it's Dartmouth. I just want somewhere where I can get to know people, have fun, study, and somewhere that is not too far away from everything on campus. Somewhere thoroughly enjoyable.
Any suggestions about great dorms, ones to avoid for upperclassmen and the like, would be very much appreciated.
I have this link: Dorm Guides - Student Assembly which is quite good but I was wondering if anyone on CC could help me out.
Thank you so much!
:)

With the exception of East wheelock and sub free dorms, you probably will not get a choice as to where you want to live.

The upside is that housing is guaranteed for all freshmen and sophomore sutdnets. The down side is that sophomores participate in room draw. As a transfer, you may be at the bottom of the sophomore food chain when it comes to getting a room.

maybe others will chime in to tell you what is available for sophomores. I remember they were closing the lodge down for renovations. Don’t know if it is open yet, but I think it is suppose to be sophomore housing along with fayerwethers.

Actually not a lot of partying goes on at the dorms in Dartmouth. If anything, it sometimes feels to me that the dorms are quieter on major party weekends. I’m told the housing forms for freshmen no longer let you request a dorm, but I’m not sure how it works for transfers.

The Fayerweathers are a very centrally-located cluster, and I’d definitely recommend them. If you want to be closer to food, then opt for something on Mass Row. Wheeler is close to the library.
