2000 posts!

@Raith HURRAY!

@Keya thanks for your help, I’ll let you know how it goes!

Missed the 2000th post by 2 posts!! DAMN!! :/

CONGRATULATIONS TO US :D

@dbtocollege: I’m not sure, but statistics say they should be between 17-18, since the average age of all college students is 20 (I will be 20 before I start college )

@Raith: Thank you for the compliment ^^
Oddly enough (sorry about borrowing your phrase :P) I have no opinion whatsoever about the age at which one should attend college (As my sister says, LIFE is ephemeral but KNOWLEDGE is eternal → i.e. learning can never have boundaries). However, as of late, my relatives have been asking me how it would feel to attend classes with “kids”. I’ve been wondering whether I will still feel the same way a year from now. Just wanted an opinion from someone else who might have considered this.

@keya, raith
I’m currently on my gap year and will turn 19 just before uni starts. I’ve actually been worrying about my age despite only being a year older because I feel like the internship I’m doing right now has made me view things in a way I could never have done as a student… I’m actually looking forward to living like a teenager again!

That’s a good perspective! We can pretend to be teenagers for much longer than we will be :)

Anyone wants to read my UChicago essay? (It’s kinda personal :S) I was rejected, although I still love my essay. :D

bored

I thought about taking a gap year too and the whole time it bothered me that I would start uni with 19 but who cares if I am 1 year older. I look younger anyway, so no one would notice :D

@keya
I would love to read it. :)

Haha. I feel like someone’s grandma. -.- @sunny Thank you!!! It should be here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/164537-post-your-essay-67.html

Yeah definitely - I think gap years are the most useful experiences to have before you go into college as long as you spend it well! It’s nice to gain fresh perspectives from taking on new jobs, internships, volunteering posts, travelling and so much more! It definitely waves goodbye to any lethargic feelings one might have towards studying after high school :)

@keya
I love the ending of your essay “I can steal a drink from the Philosopher’s Stone” it made me smile
I think it’s really well-written but I just love the how-english-speaking-people-write-essays-style. Now it sounds like your essay is just a random one - no it isn’t, it’s unique and personal. I think it’s awesome and like learninglover posted I am sure you weren’t rejected because of your essay :)

@dbtocollege
What kind of an internship are you doing? :)

Thanks @sunny!! I was seriously stuck on the conclusion for MONTHS before i finally came up with something I like
“but I just love the how-english-speaking-people-write-essays-style.” - didn’t quite get that, sorry. o.o
I just love taking risks and I’ve always been rather straightforward. I had hoped that they would appreciate my acknowledgement of my flaws. Your weaknesses remain your weaknesses unless you learn to get the better of them, right? ;)

@keya
It’s the way you guys write your essays. There is always a personal story behind it and it is creative, you will not find that in German. It sounds really ridiculous when you write down feelings or a personal story in German. And I just love how the Americans/ English speaking people write their stories. It’s hard to explain, sorry

Yea, right. :)

If you guys are talking about writing styles and creativity…

Jeffrey Archer be the man. :D

What I would give to observe his thoughts for just a few minutes :p

@Keya
I think that works very well
I still really don’r mind being a year/2 years older than everyone else… I really look forward to my social life once I get to uni (probably good I wasn’t accepted at MIT or CalTech xP )

A grandma? haha you ain’t that old dear

@dbtocollege
I turn 20 in my first year bro (November 3rd) I think I kinda still act like a teenager?! Depends what that counts as though… I can party like the last day of the world But truthfully I feel I have always lived with a sense of responsibility, so maybe that makes it seem like I could be a tad older :P

I agree that gap years are very important, I’m really happy that the way my school year works gives me about 9 months free (hence the current work experience, SCUBA license, driving license and pilot’s license)

@Sunny
I know exactly what you mean (having grown up in an international setting with two of my best friends both being German). I have yet to see a German actually express their emotions much xP
You still need to get onto Facebook (Sophia) <- I think that was your name right? or just Sophie?

@rishav
I actually have one book of him called prisoner of birth, but never read it

@Raith
Yea, it really doesn’t work, it sounds so awful. I tried to write my Common App essay in German first to collect ideas, write down a couple of things but the result was horrible. Yep Sophia. Nah, I still don’t need Facebook. :D

@Sunny
haha shame
You do need facebook… or twitter… or some social networking site other than CC xP

@Raith
WhatsApp is my social network. I don’t need something else :D

ok then :P

@Raith
Haha yeah a lot of my friends are your age because the UK system means my year ranged from September 93 to August 94. Ah it was so great for the people with early birthdays when they turned 18…

@sunny
I’m working at an IB atm :)
