**Dartmouth International Applicant's Thread 2017**

@Sunny
HOURS!! :S I don’t think I could put it off for even 30 mins! :P

It doesn’t bother me too much (mainly cause I don’t even think I will get accepted to those unis anyway). But I’ll ask people I know who are there. No interview yet for those, only Princeton- in a week.

@Boss
Well never drinking or smoking is fine, in my opinion that is more your health than partying.
I suppose I came off a little presumptuous there :confused: I think everyone here will fit in at Dartmouth as it seems to be a bit more of a family than just some place people go to to learn :slight_smile:

And everyone parties differently, I prefer relatively chilled vibes, good music, good people, good booze (I like shots, but prefer wine and similar sorts of drinks) :slight_smile: Occasionally I will go for those frat type big drinking nights :P

@Raith
I think I don’t want to open it, I expect a rejection and I know it’s not the end of the world but if you open it and it says “We regret to inform you…” It is still really disappointing :D

@lboss
Don’t worry, I have never smoked or was drunk either :D

@sunny12
Sweet! I knew there was another non-smoker/drinker other than myself! I knew it! haha

@Raith
I understand bro haha. I wouldn’t mind a little wine during a nice dinner, but I don’t think I would ever indulge myself in bottles and bottles of alcohol!

For all,
Despite Dartmouth’s hazing scandal and whatnot (search Dartmouth hazing in google or youtube), I have heard that frats are very welcoming to non-members and drinking is not forced upon anyone. It’s up to you to make the decisions for yourself. Plus, I’m sure that everyone can find friends at Dartmouth :slight_smile: Great school and great students to say the least.

@Iboss1223 & Sunny12 - Me too!! … if those few ones I tasted are discounted… :stuck_out_tongue:
Though partying is definitely on!! :)

AHhh DARTMOUTH!!! Why can’t they just (hopefully) accept all of us already!! :D

about the hazing, it’s really up to you to decide ~ and look on the bright side Dartmouth’s applicants dropped by 0.3%(might be wrong) – so all the more chance for us, right?? :D

@rishav
I tasted some too but most of them were disgusting :smiley:
Sure it is on! :)

Hopefully they will accept all of us. 0.3%? Our chances are definitely increasing ;D I look forward to meeting you on campus :D

It’ll be awesome meeting u guys there in person:)

Oh god the number of new posts when i check back on this thread -.- its so hard to keep track.

I dont drink either (not usually). Though i have attended a few parties :stuck_out_tongue:
I just hope I dont get wasted at college ahaha. That would be embarassing :p

Another party goer but sober person here!!!
And I can’t wait this long… it’s so frustrating!!

Country: Georgia

Intended Major: Computer Science/Math/Analytics

Hobbies: shooting videos, computer graphics, table tennis and hanging out :D

A new international applicant, welcome konspace :slight_smile:
Have you applied regular decision or are you already accepted?

I swear, I go out to dinner for a few hours and I miss really being a part of a potentially very interesting discussion :frowning: and we broke 400 posts and 5,500 views! :)

@EVERYONE (apparently :P)
maybe I am just too much of a South African :wink: I have heard that a lot of the Americans consider South Africans as “party animals” - we tend to start drinking young (a lot of people also smoke and do drugs), but a lot of us also don’t get drunk too quickly. For example my sister who isn’t big was able to drink more than the recruited football players!! :smiley: It is in our blood!! :smiley: I just refuse to drink beer or whiskey! Wine is best… then Vodka, Tequila, Absinthe :smiley: Mauritius also has a HUGE clubbing vibe (very good Dj’s and clubs) so I suppose its my environment. Also drinking age is 18 (I’m 19 turning 20 end of this year), most people here can start clubbing around 14 (and tend to drink that young too). Been drunk badly twice (both times involved beer though - makes me sick and blackout :S)

@Sunny
haha shame :stuck_out_tongue: if you get accepted, promise us that you post it here for all of us! :smiley: Will be amazing for you!!

@Everyone (again)
Can’t believe so many of you don’t really drink :frowning: obviously its great :stuck_out_tongue: but I was hoping to gain a great group of drinking buddies!! (My friend for the peer eval is my usual drinking buddy - half my size but can drink almost the same as me! Good strong German :wink: )

@Space
Welcome!! :smiley: Happy to see a new international student here :slight_smile: also from quite a different place as Georgia :slight_smile:
Good with maths clearly! Good for you - we have a couple economics, psychology, engineering and business type majors here (wonder if we will get any linguistic or history majors… hmmm).
Also very interesting set of hobbies :slight_smile: I see you said you like hanging out - what is your opinion on parties and drinking (since we have been talking about it for a while)?

I really look forward to meeting you all if we all end up at the Green place that is Dartmouth :D

@MRU
I dont know why I really chose Econ and engineering except I find researching to be a LOT of fun and exciting and whenever I think of new sources of energy , I can’t help smiling . Also , I find economics to be a very interesting and important science to know about , it helps everywhere from day to day life to
Major business decisions in the future .
Also Dartmouth has the amazing MEM program which im so tempted to go for !!

And just to everyone about the hazing scandal , yes it might have happened but you must remember that joining a frat is completely voluntary and it’s not forced on anyone . While some may enjoy the frat culture others dont. I feel like the guy who wrote so much about hazing just didn’t enjoy Dartmouth as a whole for whatever reason . It’s pretty stupid lol . Every school has some alumni which embarrass it somehow or the other , you have those guys in Yale who burned the American Flag , Adam Wheeler and that Unabomber dude from Harvard etc etc .
Remember college life Is really what you make of it :D

Also MRU about the partying at CalTech thing , that school is a complete extreme , it’s notorious for not having any social life at all and for being just super competitive .
I’ve heard you can’t really bond with people too easily over there , it’s pretty cut-throat.
In fact , guides like Fiske Guide have given CalTech a 1/5 in socials !
So that’s really the extreme that you’re looking at when you talk about a school like CalTech .

Hey guys !! I’m from the Caribbean … seems like i’m the only one here.

I want to do the foreign languages … I only do French and Spanish so far.

I’m not really a sportsperson but i’m interested in football, badminton and rugby.

I really don’t think I’ll get into Dartmouth since my grades aren’t all that. But all the best to you guys :)

@Raith - well i could be your drinking buddy. I usually do vodka, rum, gin, cognac. (in that order). And it takes me a lot of time to get drunk, even though im not a habitual drinker.

And being / working as a DJ, i usually see a lot of people falling around, getting wasted etc. Not to forget i get free snacks and liquor haha. :p

@Dart
I love energy too!! :smiley: Applied for the VIPER program at UPenn (though really doubt I’ll get in :stuck_out_tongue: even if I do, I don’t know if Penn is the place for me).
Never been a fan of economics myself. Sister minored in it, I see its importance, but I find that I will feel like I will have to work hard to keep interest (but uni courses may help me like it, hopefully).

I knew CalTech wasn’t quite going to be at the top of the social scene, but it really is sad that they don’t even seem to find it particularly easy to organise a party. Never knew about the cut-throat attitude :frowning: I will really have to have a look at it and form an opinion from lots of sources :/

@Carib
Welcome! Another tropical country here :slight_smile: (and we finally have a linguistics person)
RUGBY! Good on you :slight_smile:

Even if your grades aren’t great, and even if you might think you will get rejected, chill on here and discuss all sorts of things.
Where else have you applied if you don’t mind me asking?

welcome caribgurl! Nice to have you here.

Well, not a lot of caribbeans apply i guess, so who knows right?
Just dont lose hope.

@Blue
Oh yea! Forgot that you Dj-ed :slight_smile:
Have you ever had a Springbok shot? (I’ve heard it is almost restricted to South Africa, but a couple nearby countries have it too) - best flavoured shot ever! (I know I sound a little like an alcoholic… apparently it runs in my family though :confused: )

Ever gone for Amaretto, Amarula/Baileys, Brandy straight as a slow drink to enjoy with friends?

@Raith
I will, also if I get rejected. I have to open it no later than May 1, so no I don’t know maybe I open it immediatly or let someone else read it. That is going to be a horrible day :smiley: But you are right if I get accepted I would jump around and scream :smiley:

You will find your drinking buddies :wink: Btw, how much beer did you drink? You drink Vodka, Tequila… but you get drunk because of beer? Incredible :D

@caribgurl
Welcome :slight_smile:
Don’t worry, my test score is really bad, but at least we tried and maybe we have some luck :)

@Sunny
True, if you want to wait till a day or two before May 1st… I still think I would die from not knowing :P

I know I’ll find my drinking buddies, just thought it would be awesome finding them sooner than later :slight_smile:
One, two beers… Beer and Whiskey make me feel sick - if I drink anything else I might get tipsy enough that it doesn’t end well. But usually with Vodka and Tequila, 10+ shots in a 2 hour period is fine with me :P
