Dartmouth kinda sucks

just to correct one objective thing

"Yale Law: Dartmouth, Dartmouth, Dartmouth....the "League" likes to keep its members for grad school
"

take a look at the admit numbers for Harvard, Yale and Stanford Law Schools and you'll see that after their own undergrad college, the next highest number of acceptances went to Duke undergrads

Justblahblah and DevilMay Cry,

Duke may be calling both of you-- kind likes kind --however, I don't think anyone here is intersted in stroking your ego, or convincing you of anything other than getting on with our lives as we have all gotten on with ours (being able to make important decisions in a timely fashion is a virtue, after all).

IMHO, you both sound as if you will be a better fit at Duke and I believe we should all go for the highly praised "fit".

Although, I highly doubt Justblahblah is anything other than a fairy-tale troll (1st post, huh?), I belive in the devil and think it unbecoming of him to have to cry over missing-out on the Duke experience.

So go to Duke. I don't think anyone here wants someone wandering around Hanover, complaing about how awful the College is.

Amen..............

DMC is a HER!? What planet have I been circling? Time for a vacation

These post help me decide between school A & school B drive me nuts. Asking for feedback is one thing but as people who at least demonstrate that there is something about them that merits acceptance, what is it so lacking i that you cannot make a decision where the biggest benefactor is you. We all understand that the process is stress and sometimes daunting. I believe that you already know of should know what you want from your college experience. If money is not the issue and your parents have no major issues with you leaving the state and all other things being equal go to the best school for you. Forget about the rankings as they change from one year to the next. Don't worry about grad placement because you still have 3 years before you even get to that bridge and in that time what you think you want to do today may not be all that it is cracked up to be 3 years from now. Go where you will truly be happy. You do not need permission from the greek chorus of anyone to validate your decision for you.

As an observer through out this process from ED to RD, my heart went out to people like Elizabeth -who has been the true definition of grace through out this whole process Dartmouth's loss is Wellesley's gain , Calidan, Newbyreborn, Babybird, Smartalec and others had they been accepted to Dartmouth, this would have been a no brainer.

I am grown tired hearing about of the cons of attending Dartmouth is that the school is in the middle of nowhere, it's cold, and it’s a small town. Yes!! Dartmouth is all of those things as you knew or should have known that when you applied. Did you think that the school all of the sudden was going to move to some tropical location because you applied? Spare me the comments about the crunch granolas, drunken frat boys, preppies because guess what, you are going to find them at almost every school in the country (barring the highly religious ones as even the schools with no Greek presence are not at a loss for drunks)

There are over 3000 colleges in this country all of them will give you a good education if it is your desire to obtain one (I can give a first hand testimony to that). Ask yourself, is this a school that I would recommend to others. I remember my daughter telling me that she had a great time in high school, and she really liked it but she wants to * love * her college. Can you see yourself saying I love being at ___________/I.

I really cannot tell you how they do it at other schools, but I have never seen anything like what Dartmouth does as far as having a sense of community that begins the moment you are officially the class of 09. It’s almost like having a baby; everyone is so excited at the prospect of your arrival. From being greeted by the H-crew at the beginning of your DOC trip, to doing the salty dog rag when the trip comes to a close. Having orientation where you are the guest of honor and everything is planned with you in mind (last year 12 days, 165 events).

You’ll go to convocation, matriculation and having your group picture taken where you will forever be the class of 09. You’ll be celebrated at home coming as you run around the bonfire nine times wearing your 09 jerseys, some having your face painted but everyone having a good time. You’ll want to host prospies because you want them to know how special Dartmouth is and how next year they can ave the same amazing experience.

No one should have to convince you to come to Dartmouth. For those that are students and alumni, I think their blood really does run green. Their decision to attend is something that resonates in their spirit. They chose Dartmouth and they don’t look back concerning the “what ifs” because for them it is the right place for them.

In the end, I hope that all of you go where you can have the greatest overall experience possible. The call of 09 will be a stellar group as all those before them. Like it or not it with or without you, it will happen. For those who chose to attend, Congratulations, you are in for the ride of your life. For those who don’t choose to attend, I think Blu, and Lawyerdad’s kid are doing the dance of joy because it opens the possibility of being getting off the waitlist.

Your post is right on Sybbie.

Justblahblah,
Will there be a post #2, or did you just come here to do your dirt and sneak away to your other screen name (I'm betting on Cal1600 or Westside, or Westsidee or some equally obnoxious and over the hill troll).

I agree sybbie

Sigh.

Considering the number of rejected applicants who would have been absolutely thrilled to attend dear old Dartmouth and loved it BECAUSE of the cold, the snow, the location, all that outdoor stuff...

Sempitern,

I hope that you have a truly amazing time at Duke. It's a wonderful school and I know that you will be very successful. Should you still feel a passion for Hanover, I hope that you consider applying again as a transfer. But hey if by this time next year, your blood runs blue, we'll understand. We won't be mad at ya because some of the best gifts are the unexpected ones and we'll still have love for you.

All the best.

awww..... thanks sybbie that was so very kind of you

who knows, sometime, if the heat gets oppressive I just might have to transfer up there :)

but... probably not

congrats to all those who got in

I AM A MAN!!!!! A VERY AWESOME, HANDSOME

M
A
N

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol

Out of your own mouth or at least from your own keyboar., what is your decision? Don't be afraid to tell us as inquiring minds want to know :D

Sybbie, I love you, but I chose Duke.

I might go to Dartmouth for Tuck if I choose business later on, but I could not abandon Duke. I talked to over 20 physicians at my volunteer job and they told me that i would be an imbessal to forgo duke.

Once again, Sybbie.....I APOLOGIZE FOR WASTING YOUR TIME. I want to thank you for putting up with all of us nervous teenagers and advicing us in the most honorable way. So...

on behalf of the Dartmouth board...

THANK YOU!

I wouldn't entrust your life to those doctors...

I am not. I actually went to Duke for a weekend and loved it. I love Dartmouth too, and I even thought of rescinding my deposit to Duke in order to go to Dartmouth. I was THAT torn. I hope I see you guys in 4 or 5 years!!!!

Also, Duke and Dartmouth are the same. THey are nearly identical in prestige, academics, and "it" factor. There was only one missing piece....

WHICH SCHOOL WAS A BETTER FIT FOR ME?

I chose Duke. I wish you ALL THE BEST AT DARTY (it was my dream school) and hope I will see some of you at Stanford, Yale, or Harvard Law school in a few years!

DMC,

You did not waste my time, so please don't feel that way. In the end you chose the best place for you based on what you want/need from a school and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I remember when you first came to this board and posted a question about your chances. I watched you wait out the likely letter process and announce your acceptance to Duke. I know that the decision was not easy, but the important thing is that you are happy.

Sempitern is going to have to keep someone out of trouble (so I guess i's gonna be you).

Hey, did you know that Yellow + Blue makes Green? You will always be a part of us, and we'll even own up to knowing you if you do something great :). I know that you will do great things.

So as you and Sempitern go off to Duke and watch all of those games, your Dartmouth friends leave you with this thought...

***Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored. there are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
will make you the winning-est winner of all.
Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

Dr. Suess, The Places You'll Go ***

Hey, I got people in NC, so you'lll never know when you will run into me. Don't think I won't come down and ping you on the back of the head to get you back in line.

I wish you all the best in your years at Duke

thank you so much, sybbie. I wish you and your awesome daughter the very best.
