Dartmouth Likely Letter Meaning?

Hey guys,

So happy for everyone who's gotten a likely letter to Dartmouth! I will post my stats here.

Just wondering-Why did we get the letters so late? Also, does a likely from Dartmouth signify good prospects for the other ivies, e.g. HYPPC?

Indian American from CA
2380 SATs; 780, 800, 750 SAT 2s.
-National Awards for classical oriental vocal performing
-Charity in India that I run (raised 2,500 dollars through my vocal performances)
-debate best delegate awards in state competitions (e.g. RUMUN, Duke, Princeton MC, etc).
-Rank-Salutatorian (2)

Once again, congrats and hoping to meet some of you in the fall!

When did you get it? Someone mentioned in the dartmouth early thread that Dartmouth keeps releasing a few every week starting mid january or so until 2 weeks before, making upto 500.

I got it yesterday

A LL is giving you advance warning that they like you and want you to know they are admitting you in order for you to make plans that include Dartmouth while you are thinking about your colleges.

In a lot of cases people find out a bunch of schools admitted them on April 1st and have very little time to think about it before making decisions about visiting some and making a decision. An advance notice ensures you think about this school longer.

“does a likely from Dartmouth signify good prospects for the other ivies, e.g. HYPPC?” It certainly points a better direction than the opposite. But given the vagaries of each school, you can’t extrapolate. No one can. Congrats however.
