Dartmouth "likely letter"

So I just got one of the infamous "Likely letter's" from Dartmouth and was wondering what exactly this is saying about my standing.

Thanks in advance!

you're in.

congrats!

I got one too, and from what I've looked up I think it means we'll get a letter in a few weeks.

Congrats man.

What does the letter say?

[quote]
Greetings to you from Dartmouth! I hope your senior year is going well and that you are enjoying your courses and activities.

My purpose in writing is very simple--we have reviewed your application and think you are an outstanding prospect for Dartmouth. In fact, I recently read your file and was exceedingly impressed with your academic accomplishments and intellectual potential. There is no question that when we mail our final decisions at the end of March, you will be offered admission to the College.

I see no reason to delay letting you know about the promising status of your application, and I hope this early indication will "ease your mind" a bit. The college admissions process is unnecessarily long and anxious for many students. So, relax, get back to that book you meant to read, and use this time to reflect on your plans and goals for the next phase of your education.

If you have any questions about Dartmouth, please let me know. In the meantime, best wishes for the remainder of your high school experience.

is what it says

that's obviously a rejection letter.

couldn't you tell by the "there is no question that when we mail our final decisions... you will be offered admission" ???

My letter actually read a bit differently

"Greetings to you from Dartmouth College! As we in the Admissions Office continue to evaluate applications for the Class of 2013m a small and select group of well-qualified students emerges. We take great pleasure in informing you that you are part of this talented group. More specifically, we want you to know that your admissions to Dartmouth is very likely when we mail our final decisions at the end of March."

It then goes on from there talking about how they think of the contribution I'd make to Dartmouth and talking about Dartmouth dimensions.

I got mine like 2-3 weeks ago; they send them out in waves. That probably explains the difference.

Congrats, unless you totally mess up, you are on your way to Hanover (if you desire to attend). you should definitely look into going to dimensions (Dartmouth's admitted students days)

Spunaugle, congrats on your likely, too bad your common sense will hinder your life's endeavors. If you can't comprehend:

"We take great pleasure in informing you that you are part of this talented group. More specifically, we want you to know that your admissions to Dartmouth is very likely when we mail our final decisions at the end of March."

And have to spend time making a thread, I weep for you.

Very likely doesn't necessarily imply in, and its understandable he would want to clarify what it meant. Just consider that before you post anything.

Ummmm no. He's definitely in. Wouldn't make much sense to reject someone whose part of a "small and select" group of talented applicants would it?

Critical reading skills lacking much?

Congrats, you're in. Now go do something so fun that'll get you arrested and rescinded.
