Dartmouth or Princeton?

“Fountensiren […] Even in your pro-Dartmouth arrogance”

Oh really,
please quote me.

I never even so much as suggested to G-unit that s/he should go to Dartmouth, or not go to Princeton. I suggested that s/he should trust his/her own experiences over the sophistic impressions of others who suggest G-unit's own view is itself too limited to be trusted.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t call it arrogance, but certainly partisanship to say:

“Princeton and Dartmouth will both offer one a fantastic education but if there is any advantage to be had here, Princeton has it.”

I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

BTW,

that would be "she" not "he".

Emily

You know, the first stupid thing that happened here is that someone pro-Princeton deliberately posted pro-Princeton things on a very, very pro-Dartmouth board.

Generally, people ask for opinions about Dartmouth on the Dartmouth board because they want to hear good things about Dartmouth. Likewise with posting about Princeton on the Princeton board. People ask questions based on what they want to hear as answers.

With this in mind, unless you really have no greater desire than to start a dead-end argument with a bunch of Dartmouth enthusiasts, you should not post here if your loyalties lie with Princeton. Go to the Princeton board. Save yourself a lot of time and annoyance.

Well said. My loyalties are NOT with Princeton or any other place. However, I thought this decision was pretty clear cut. At least it would be for me.

I would pick pton

Devil May Cry, agreed, I also believe the decision here is pretty clear-cut. As the OP said, (in a very non-prestige-whoring fashion) “I liked both schools but have a slight preference for Dartmouth.”

Perhaps not utterly clear-cut, as you seem to believe, but you are obviously correct in believing the better choice here, for this person, is Dartmouth based on his own feeling for the two schools.

Fountain, you owned this one! I agree with you, to many people think their opinion should out-weight the “impressions” and feelings of others here. Clearly, Dartmouth is the place to go if you prefer your feeling or opinions to be respected and given the weight and space they deserve.

There are, however, other schools--in and out of the Ivy League--that are filled with self-identifying “elite” people who always feel that they know something that you don’t (hence, the arrogance attached to their feeling that they are elite…no need to mention names).

There are also people who are simply obnoxious; they are always the loudest and most offensive people at every party they attend and are in especially rare form when they are crashing a party where they don’t seem to fit in. The problem is: you want to be patient and hope they go away, but the fact is they just tend to get louder and more obnoxious the longer you indulge them, while waiting for their sense of dignity to kick in (no need to mention names).

well said.
