Please share why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected ED or regular to Dartmouth so that those of us applying for 2018 can improve our chances.

What’s the consistent theme? Excellence. There’s no formula.

How would 2017 kids really know? They have a key-hole view of the process. You’re better off trawling through the various results threads.

Just curious what they think…

I got in and I have to say I have NO idea how. I was definitely an above average student, valedictorian, and had some national extracurricular experience/awards, but usually at these ivy leagues, everybody does. I think I got lucky with Dartmouth because now that I look back on the whole application process, I didn’t do very well on my app. So my piece of advice is to fill out your Common App with extreme attention to detail and take more time than you think you would need reflecting on everything you have accomplished in the last 5 or 6 years. DO NOT underrepresent yourself, it’s one of the worst things you could do.
I wish you the best of luck and hope you become an honorary '18!

Honestly I think the thing that did it for me was the character reference. My best friend who is an amazing writer wrote mine

In the Admissions presentation on campus, they suggest to take the hardest courses that your school has to offer and excel. Excellence in less than the hardest is less valuable. They also said that 2/3 of applicants could meet the academic challenge, so it has more to do with your fit in any given year.

Have a passion and write about it well in your essay and hope that your passion and extracurriculars fit with the needs for your year. Do not consider it a negative for you if for that given year you do not get it because in another year you might have. It’s a lottery if you have the academics.

I can see a consistent trend that the incomes of admitted students are relatively high, this is especially true for the ED batch

My subjects are HL Physics (6), HL english lang and lit (6, though i might get a 7 as my predicted), HL economics (7), SL Chemistry (7), SL Spanish AB (7), SL Maths (7) in the IB. I took these subjects out of pure interest. My intended major is Economics or International Relations. Will Dartmouth consider my subject choice competitive enough?
