Does it ever feel like you are trapped in the campus/tiny town?

Honest opinions

no. I never have felt “trapped”.

After four years, I’m beginning to get a bit tired of Hanover dining options, but you can easily get in a car and drive for ~30 mins to a whole host of different options in surrounding towns.

some people do, though, and make their way to Boston/Montreal a few times a term for some city life.

As a total city lover who absolutely felt trapped in a considerably larger suburb during high school…no, I have never felt trapped. Do i sometimes miss malls…I won’t lie, yes. But honestly, not only are Boston and Montreal super accesible, but I’ve never gone, because the idea of missing a weekend on campus is unapealing…I honestly love being on campus and in Hanover, and there is always more going on than I can do.

I agree with everything, but it’s not correct to say that Boston and Montreal are super accessible.

Boston coach and greyhound make them pretty accessible…especially Dartmouth coach to Boston. I mean, I come from somewhere where the only place to get anywhere is if you drive yourself, so walking to the Hanover Inn and getting on a bus with wifi seems super accesible to me…certainly a lifesaver when flying out of Logan!!

This was one of my main concerns coming in, but to be honest, you don’t really notice after a little bit. Because of the isolation of Dartmouth, people join clubs and organizations, and that takes up most of your time. Add the schoolwork and the social scene, and you’re set.

Yes.

True, you probably won’t notice after a little bit…but you will a little bit after that. Joining clubs and organizations doesn’t = feeling less trapped.

Boston, I would say is super accessible. Montreal, not so much.

I’ve been at D for almost two years. I am presently on off-term in London doing an internship (last w/e was in Paris), will return to D for Sophomore Summer, before going to Madrid in the fall on an FSP. I have, at least, one more off-term option before graduating.

I have never felt trapped in Hanover. In fact, I feel quite the opposite. There is more to do and explore at D than there is time for it. Trapped, I think, is both a state of mind and a result of the choices one makes, both of which an individual controls.

does the size of the student body ever make you feel trapped? My high school has about 700 kids in each class and I always feel trapped in a sense because everyone knows everyone. People also go to the same parties with the same people every weekend and it all becomes monotonous. Is it like that at Dartmouth? Because Dartmouth isn’t much bigger than my high school

^ Too late now bud
