Dartmouth social/party scene??

What is the dartmouth social scene like? I think I want to join a frat, but I’m not a huge drinker (will drink casually/ a little bit) What is the average frat party like at dartmouth? I’ve heard that the majority party scene is only hard core dancing and binge drinking in the basement of frats. Do people ever Casually talk at the parties or is it really just pure binge drinking and pong? I am really looking for a social scene that’s relatively inclusive, laid back/ relaxed drinking where people can talk and play low key games (not everyone is fall over drunk and people actually talk). Is that the average frat scene or will I have to work hard to find it?I feel like I’m in this weird place where I’m not into huge Ragers, but I enjoy intimate smaller parties.

This is getting old now but maybe good for history–

I doubt you will get many answers from D students here, since they’re tired of all this BS

You can go parties and drink as little as you like. Pong is big. I don’t think anyone would describe the basement scene as conducive to casual chatting.

First- freshman can’t go into the frats until halfway through the first term, so you’ll have a bunch of low-key dorm parties until then, which you’d probably like.
Second- everyone says they’re not a huge drinker until they get to college and start drinking. It’s pretty inevitable. I know you think it won’t happen to you, but it will.
Third- The basement scene is what you make it. People usually pre-game with their friends before going out, and then you can play pong (which is constantly going on at all frats) or talk and enjoy the free beer. Also, you generally don’t stay at just one frat, you hop between several- plenty of time to talk on the way to the next one. There are usually not a lot of ‘fall over drunk’ people; they just get pretty rowdy. Also, it’s pretty inclusive since anyone can go to any frat.
Fourth- if you want to join a frat, like you said, you will be binge drinking on a regular basis.

At the end of the day, however, Dartmouth is an elite institution that is academics-heavy; the party scene is vibrant, but the frats and parties are not as crazy as those you’ll find at state schools and other places. If you’re a pretty social bookworm, you’d fit right in

Thank you pucelle and VnEkFf so much that was very helpful!!
