This is a great thread! I am wondering if a non-outdoorsy, non-drinking artsy type guy could be happy socially at Dartmouth. Academically and in every other way, Dartmouth seems like a perfect fit. Help! I have 3 days to decide . . . .

Yes, it’s possible. But the number of non-outdoorsy, non-drinking types on campus is low nevertheless. Are you comfortable being around people who drink, even when they’re drinking? Do you play a sport? If yes to both, your odds of being happy here are higher.

How are the sciences at Dartmouth? I’m leaning toward environmental science, but am also considering chemistry, geology, and possibly engineering.

I was just assigned to a single dorm in Judge Hall. What should I expect and what is the bathroom situation?

Floor plan showing bathroom layout here: [The River Cluster](http://www.dartmouth.edu/~orl/housing/communities/river.html) You will get a lot of good exercise, like everyone in the Rivers.
Do you know if Judge has private bathrooms/half-baths or communal baths?

Look at the floor plan. There are two bathrooms per floor. IIRC when S lived in a 3-room double in Judge one bathroom was male, one female on his floor.

Should I expect any rodents, animals, or bugs in/near Judge?

Are you serious???

I know every region has different creatures so I want to know what to expect

Sorry, I missed the editing deadline. S never mentioned any infestations of cockroaches or silverfish, as I’ve seen in NYC apartments, nor any mice. Outside I would think you would encounter squirrels, which I believe are rodents. I would expect that Hanover and the Dartmouth campus might see the occasional raccoon, skunk, opossum, fox, wild turkey, or deer. More rarely, moose or coyote. All of the above are pretty typical for towns in northern New England. Places where there is a steady stream of people walking about are less likely to attract wildlife, and many of the above are nocturnal.

Thank you!
