dartmouth students?

hello! so i just visited dartmouth and loved the school and area! the only thing i'm wondering is what type of students make up the college. i know there's probably all types of kids there, but if anyone who is currently enrolled or who knows about dartmouth could write a little about the overall vibe/type of student at dartmouth, that'd be great! .......any hippies?

Although there really isn’t a typical Dartmouth student, there do seen to be some traits that many students share.

A lot of students are quirky. One of the traditions is “flair,” which involves dressing up for various events in the tackiest, most mismatched items in your closet.

We also pride ourselves on traditions, such as freshmen rushing the football field during halftime at the homecoming game or throwing tennis balls on the ice at the yearly hockey match vs. Princeton.

During the week, everyone works hard. On weekends, however, it seems as if there is a mass migration from the libraries to the frats. There is a fairly big drinking culture, but there is no pressure to join.

Then you get into various subsets of students. Some are the outdoorsy/environmental type. They go on weekly camping trips with the Dartmouth Outing Club and spend more time at the Dartmouth Skiway during the winter than they spend on campus. Some are the pre-business/pre-politics/pre-med types. These students spend their time doing anything and everything they can to help their post-grad goals, i.e. consulting internships/College Democrats/Dartmouth Emergency Medical Service.

A good resource for more info on students would be the Mirror, which is a weekly section of the campus newspaper that focuses on student life, usually with a humorous perspective. One recent article you may be interested in talk about the goals of various types of students…

You would be remiss not to mention the “bro” type. There are many students here who are all decked out in their polo and what not, many take econ classes, often play on sports teams and join certain frats, usually come from boarding school. Just thought I’d throw that out there.
