Dartmouth to Take 50 - 60 From Waitlist

Yield dropped 2% down to 49%:

TheDartmouth.com | College sees a decrease in its admissions yield

ah so if you were taken off the waitlist, you would have heard friday?? meh

No! Don’t tell me this is true!

looks pretty official to me -_- /sigh

But I thought the whole waitlist thing is a several-week process?

It is, for everyone who didn’t get first round, they will chose more as those from first round turn down the offers. Good luck everyone! :)

spunaugle, thank you so much!! You just made my day with that information. Do you know in general what percentage of people matriculate from each round? Like do they expect at least 50% to decline from among the first rounders?

The article also says that 60 students have been emailed! :frowning: Does it necessarily mean that it is over for the others?

Mourad, read Post #6.

if they took 60…this is purely a guess…I would assume about 10 people would turn it down

also correct me if i am wrong anyone…won’t they take a couple more people off as a few other people after being accepted from HYPSM’s waitlist?

however…the chances are very slim after the first round where they take most people Sigh

I don’t think they expect yield from the waitlist to be that high orange, they have historical data so will probably yield close to what they want for now with this group. But there is always some ‘summer melt’, kids whose plans change, get off waitlists or decide to defer, so a few more will probably get in over the next 3 months.

does anyone know when they will send out the next set of admissions offers for waitlistees?

Don’t forget, at this point the adcoms are rounding out their class, and filling holes. You could be the next statistical star in line, but they need someone from Montana to complete the ‘students from all 50 states’ claim, or an oboe player or accapella base. Three years ago, I met a tennis player who had just gotten of the WL in August.

so essentially there’s little to no hope for normal waitlistees? How come they haven’t sent out the next batch of acceptances yet? maybe they had a really high yield from the first batch

Has anyone gotten rejects from the waitlist yet? I know my friend was rejected from Hopkin’s waitlist and told that he hadn’t made it and that they should just move along in their life…

^^Getting in off any waitlist is a huge longshot to begin with. Everyone should move along with their life whether they’ve heard or not. Then if lightning strikes and you get in it can be a huge, happy surprise. In the meantime keep moving forward with the opportunity you actually have.

Why would you think there’s a next “batch”? They have a pretty good handle they get on yield from the waitlist and I would think they’d come close with the initial offers. At this point there will probably be a few still admitted based on summer melt, but considering they had 1500 on the list–more than the freshmen class–it’s a long shot for any individual so love the school you’ve got!

did everyone get an email about the “status” of the waitlist??

Yes, I got the “status” email.
I’ve pretty much moved on at this point, but am still remaining on the waitlist just in case I do get hit by lightning and get in.

Yea, I think we all got it. Basically they’re saying that its over at this point. It seems that a good number of those that were offered from the first round accepted.
