hey there! i've been considering both dartmouth and princeton, and i'm also looking into engineering (though i'm not completely set on that). i know that princeton has a stronger program in general, but i feel like dartmouth might be a better fit for me (i'll be visiting soon to confirm this). are the academics, research, and quality of teaching so good at the engineering departments of both universities that the difference in academics doesn't matter as much (and fitting in the school would be more important)? or is there a significant difference between the school's engineering programs? thanks!

Princeton. without even thinking.

The fact that you’re asking this, makes me doubt that you got accepted to both of them.

if you’re still undecided then just choose based on preference of school. i would personally go to dartmouth but that’s because i live in a town that’s exactly like princeton and i wouldn’t be able to handle that lifestyle.

but yea the visit will help

Neither school has that strong of an engineering program, but Dartmouth less so. If it helps even though I’m not an engineer, I choose Dartmouth over Princeton due to my experiences after visiting. So yah I would say visit asap.

Dartmouth has 5x fewer engineering students. If you are interested in the research that the professors are doing then I don’t think that would be a huge drawback. To get an ABET engineering degree at Dartmouth is a 5 year program. It is very rare for someone to complete the program in 4 years (as stated by an engineering professor when we visited).

Personally, I think it is more important to find a college you will love than chasing rankings, but Princeton has a significant lead there as others have pointed out.
