Dartmouth vs Amherst, which one I should go?

I don't think that Dartmouth's linguistics and art exceed UMass and Smith, respectively (Amherst also has an art major). The 5 college consortium provides opportunities extending well beyond course offerings which most universities just can't compete with.

Amherst! I'm biased tho cause my dad's cousin is a philosophy prof. there.

Both are pretty awesome schools. If it were me, I would probably choose amherst because I think their non-core curriculum is awesome.

Small nit/....if you changed the word university to liberal arts college, you would likely be correct. But I can assure you that nearly every major university (Harvard, Stanford, Michigan, Cal) would easily best the 5C in 'opportunities'.

Dartmouth is not really 16K (4 yrs) more valuable than Amherst as it is practically an LAC itself.

What does this even mean? Implying that LACs are somehow "worth" less than other educational contexts is a ridiculous, totalizing statement (and doesn't completely apply to Dartmouth). Your condescension is disgusting.

bluebayou...most universities are not Harvard, Michigan, Cal, or Stanford, so I don't understand your qualms.

All this means is that you don't get the kind of exposure to opportunities, internshiips, diversity (although some people like the lack of diversity) at Dartmouth as you do at say Penn, Harvard Yale etc If you want to read about the LAC vs Harvard Debate check out the "rejecting harvard?" thread.

I do appreciate all of your comments and advice. I just decided to go to Dartmouth. BTW, I also received the adjusted FA package from Dartmouth yesterday. Thanks again!
