I am very conflicted about which school to choose and May 1st is coming up. I am interested in social sciences/humanities/ legal studies. I haven't yet visited dart, but I am in a few days. I visited Amherst and it was pretty nice. Maybe my choice will become clearer after I visit Dartmouth, but I was just wondering if anyone on here has any advice. I am a little worried about what has been going on at Dartmouth as of recent and I am not a big fan of the Greek system.

Amherst and Dartmouth are more similar to than they are different from one another. Hopefully you will visit dimensions. It will come down to personal preference. For my D, while she loved Amherst, she felt the difference between 2k and 4k students. Both schools will give you a great education and take you where you want to go. D chose Dartmouth, her best friend and roommate from law school, graduated from Amherst (Law, Jurisprudence and Social though major) / . You have 2 great choices; chose what you feel is right for you.

^^ I agree. If size is really an issue though, Amherst is even smaller than 2K - tops out at 1800, I am pretty sure. Dartmouth is 4200.

I would dismiss the greek news, all colleges have conflicts and some issues, but really, greek life does contibute positively to campus life in many ways aside from parties, they have wonderful philanthropy events and do help maintain school spirit, for all the bad news that might come from parties, I would put that aside. Having visited Amherst you have a feel for it now. My view is Dartmouth is #1 for undergrad studies year after years, they care a great deal about that, it is a most wonderful campus especially now coming out of winter and fall is to die for. A campus with just 4000 is still small, within a couple of years you will know most of the folks on campus and it will be your home, my sons HS was 3000+ and he felt very happy there moving to a larger college. I would concur you will get a great education and launch pad for whatever you seek to do after undergrad but I would look to Dartmouth as being the best undergraduate education you can get.

On what basis have you determined that Dartmouth’s undergrad educational experience is better than HYPSM, or for that matter AWS, etc?

Sorry if this is late, but Dartmouth has been ranked #1 in undergraduate teaching for the fifth year in a row according to US News. And that’s for all national universities; for liberal arts colleges, Amherst doesn’t even break the top 5.

For what it’s worth, I guess.
