Which is more prestigious?

But really, the answer to this question is
a. It depends who you ask.
b. At this level, it really doesn't matter.

Brown is the hot Ivy, with an aura of celebrity rivaling Harvard and Yale. Dartmouth is wealthier and more accepted among the old guard. I'd say its a tie.

agreed, that brown has been the hot ivy for the last couple decades
<a href="http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9406E5DC123BF933A15751C0A965948260%5B/url%5D">http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9406E5DC123BF933A15751C0A965948260</a></p>

i think, among the "old guard", all of the new england ivies (harvard, yale, brown, dartmouth) are equally accepted in comparison to columbia, cornell and penn

brown also tends to appear often in pop culture

it's true, though that its all relative. both schools would probably impress most smart people equally

That article made me laugh. My how times have changed.

Brown will accept 2,450 of the 13,250 applicants, and it expects 1,375 to enroll. Tuition, room, board and other fees are $12,750 a year.

soak that in a little. 1/4 the cost, 2x the acceptance rate.

Ah yes! Brown's high water mark, when it led the Ivies in applications, before a cash crunch and the onset of the "eurotrash" era led to retrenchment and, sadly, an embrace of the binding Early Decision device.

<a href="http://www.dartreview.com/archives/1998/02/11/brown_bought_by_the_rest.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.dartreview.com/archives/1998/02/11/brown_bought_by_the_rest.php</a></p>

Ruth Simmons seems to be on track in leading Brown back from what was probably its low water mark, the brief, unhappy presidency of Dr. Gee, who took one look at the books and fled to a cushy spot at Vanderbilt, where he is drawing about the fattest paycheck in higher education.

Brown in the "starf***er" sounds an awful lot like Yale, Harvard and Princeton in the Bush/Kerry era. . . .Plus

pretty poor choice of links to prop up your mongering, byerly

it's a good thing the dart review isn't taken very seriously by the dartmouth community though. otherwise the obvious jealously seeping through that article would look pretty bad

most at dartmouth, consider the review an embarassment
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartmouth_Review%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartmouth_Review</a></p>

Actually, "DCircle" as you know or ought to know, that Dartmouth column was based on a famous piece in Vanity Fair a bit earlier.

I assume Brown's copy of that issue is on special reserve at the John Hay Library, but with your exalted status you ought to be able to get a peek at it!

Byerly's just jealous that JFK Jr. chose Brown over Harvard.

LOL! I'm not sure he HAD a "choice." It took him an extra year to get through Andover!

Brown is also "blessed" with young Patrick (son of Teddy) as its man in Congress. How lucky can you get!

ah, vanity fair a true harbinger of fact-driven reporting

actually, as i recall the article was quite flattering to brown, toting it as a school consistently trumping harvard for top students. see if you can't dredge it up and add a link to this thread...you're usually pretty good at it and i'm sure many here would love to read it

also, pat went to providence college not brown. also, unlike ted (a harvard man), he never committed manslaughter while driving drunk. none of the kennedy's seem to have flawless records and though this is all irrelevant to the discussion at hand, i point it out for two reasons:

1) tangential thought process is one of the first signs of alzheimer's disease

2) you should check out your facts...you seem to be slipping and confusion is another early sign.

Oh, I own my on copy of that Vanity Fair issue, "DCircle" ...a true collectors item! Unfortunately, its not on line, so you'll have to check it out at the Hay Library.

.... and if you were half as smart as you think you are, you'd know that young Patrick represents College Hill in the halls of Congress! You are free to insult any and all Kennedys without hurting my feelings!

The jealousy is pretty blatant Byerly.. Its ok if your not really upto the Brown calibre.. Not everyone is, and there have to be some losers in the world to balance the others..

Given that you have to use an article from a dartmouth magazine, that not even dartmouth students care enough to read, shows just how flawed your argument is.. Again, you probably wouldnt understand that this isnt a reliable source, but maybe once your dartmouth education kicks in (im guessing thats where you are), you might actually understand that...

oh my god people, shut the hell up.

Every college has its faults, deal with them.

Actually the Eurotrash era was quite an interesting time at Brown, even if academic standards slipped a bit concurrently.

ha watercannon, have you read any of byerlys posts

Tuition, room & board and other fees costing $12,750 a year ? At Brown ? At any school ?

Where do you get that info, BOB*3 ?

in 1982 or whenever that article was printed...
