Dartmouth - w/ 31 ACT Score

With a 31 ACT, do I have a chance at Dartmouth?

I have 3.9 GPA and have taken a rigourous academic load (honors and AP) and participating in sports, leadership, community service, etc.

It would be very difficult. The easiest way to improve your chances would be to raise the ACT score about 3 points.

Could you give us your distribution for your 31 ACT? Maybe we can help with where you can and should improve for Dartmouth that way.

First, thank you for your assistance. Here is my ACT distribution for a 31 superscore for both test scores. I will obviously not pursue math or engineering as a major.

APRIL 2013
English: 28
Math: 26
Reading: 36
Science: 29

DECEMBE 2012
English: 31
Math: 25
Reading: 34
Science: 28

Thanks!

You may not be pursuing math but it’s a vital portion of the exam that ALL Ivy League schools look into. I think you really need to invest your time getting faster at Science (which comes with practice and learning to skim over the graphs properly), learning more material for Math, and spending a tad bit of time going over grammar rules for the English portion. Also have you looked into taking the SAT instead? It may be better suited since the time restraints are easier, the math is supposedly “easier” and there is no science section.

Actually, you have a 30. Dartmouth does not superscore the ACT. They will look at your highest composite, which in your case, is a 30. Therefore, you really should retake the ACT. To be even competitive, you should get a 33. For an even better chance, you should go for a 34 or higher.
