My aunt just told me that her friend, the wife of a Dartmouth alumnus who now conducts interviews, said that a 2040 SAT is good enough to get in. This sounds a little sketchy to me. I know all the other factors like GPA have to come into play, but does this sound at all accurate?

Hmmm, I'm sure it's possible, I mean I got in w/ a 2000, granted I'm a urm, but nonetheless, if you need someone who had a "low" sat score, than I guess I'm your man.

what were some of your other stats? (pm me if you want.)
thanks!

For Dartmouth: Likely letter came before my interview and I never submitted a peer recommendation, though interview was one of my strongest lasting over an hour.

I would say it's a good possibility.
I know people who got into Tufts with under 500 in Math, so I'm sure it's possible. Granted, Tufts isn't Ivy, but it's pretty selective too.

Under 500 in math?....that's pretty crazy. Maybe I have a chance...what about places like Bowdoin or Vassar?

Bowdoin is SAT optional, so don't send your scores

Bowdoin, yes, as momofkinight said, Dartmouth no. Their average SAT this year was 1490. Keeping in mind that 50% are hooked candidates that bring down the average, the non athlete, dev, legacy, prodigy, famous kid is highly likely to have an above average score.

Yeah...I thought it sounded a little fishy. What about, say, a 31 ACT? This is being extremely optimistic, of course.

If the rest of your credentials are very strong and you write good essays, you have a shot. (just like at any other very selective school)

With a 31 in ACT you have a shot. I know someone who got into Cornell with a 31 ACT.
You need great ECs though too.

As far as Dartmouth...depends on how the 2040 was broken down. Most schools weren't weighing the Writing section as heavily as Reading & math.

That sucks because I have an 800 in writing, a 680 in CR, and 560 (I know) in math. I just took the ACT, so we'll see.

Jackson, you really need to reevaluate college choices. Most top schools still will not consider writing this year and most will never consider it equally. You're dealing with a 1240 SAT reastically. Without a hook, you need to look at schools where your stats are in the top 25% for matches.

I'm not actually looking at Dartmouth, suze. I was merely wondering if my aunt's friend was right. The top school I'm looking at is Bowdoin, which is SAT optional. I don't plan to apply to Dartmouth. I know I don't have a chance.
