Does anyone know what the strongest majors are? I know their econ department is very good and that it's one of the most popular majors. I've also heard that their chemistry department is excellent as well (although I'm not a chem fan myself).

well--many of their departments are strong. However, if you look at any ranking for arts/sciences disciplines, dartmouth's programs i.e. economics, biology, chemistry, etc. are not ranked high most of the times. I think this is b/c it is such a small school.

i think it's partially not ranked high because it's an undergrad insitution.

Most of their programs dont even have grad programs, so hence they arent even allowed to be ranked. Dartmouth is pretty much a LAC in many respects. who needs grad students anyway?

I'm with you, Slipper. When I visited Dartmouth what really interested me was: 4000 undergrads and only around a couple hundred grad students. Dartmouth's focus on the undergrad is one of the reasons it's my first choice (still calling it a College even though technically it's a University).
