For the engineering program? Really?

No, I suspect not. Even if that’s the reason he gives.

The story is that Hoke wouldn’t let him major in engineering, while the engineering dean at Alabama said that he would have all the resources he needs to major in civil engineering.

That’s the rumor circulating now. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to think that Hoke told him no to engineering, there are 5 engineering majors on the Michigan football team, all of them walk-ons except a kicker.

Florida was also in the mix.

I highly doubt engineering had anything to do with it.

In other news, Columbus arrived in America.

^No, Michigan had been the perceived favorite for awhile. This was somewhat of a shocking choice

Especially if it was because we told Hand he couldn’t do engineering…

From my understanding, DaShawn Hand had a 3.7 gpa at a middling high school. While that is a nice gpa, it would have been on the low end for a typical engineering freshman. Who knows what he scored on his ACT, but I would imagine it was not on the high end. If Michigan discouraged him from entering the COE, it was to his benefit. That Alabama told him it was no problem, is more indicative of the quality of the school as compared to U-M.

I suspect Hand did not want to risk being part of a chronic 7-8 win/per season team. It is too bad because he seems like a good kid. I wish him well at Alabama.

^^^^It’s a good thing other top rated players like Peppers are not jumping ship…yet.

I do not think Peppers will jump ship. He seems very committed to Michigan. With Mattison in charge of the Defense, and given Hoke’s commitment to Defense, I do not think Michigan’s defensive recruits are at risk of decommitting anytime soon. Peppers (CB), Mone (DT), Ferns (LB) and Marshall (DE) are secure if you ask me. It will be interesting to see if we can land Malik McDowell. He is heavily recruited by Alabama, Florida, FSU, LSU and MSU. He is still considered a Michigan lean, but then again, so was Hand until he announced he was going to Alabama. Still, I see McDowell committing to Michigan, if only for the proximity to home. If he commits to Michigan, we will all be left wondering what that defense could have been like had Hand decided to come to Michigan. A front four made up of Hand, McDowell, Mone and Marshall…WOW! Too bad it did not work out.

The problem is with offensive recruits. Guys like Drake Harris for the class of 2014 and George Campbell and Damian Harris for the class of 2015. Hopefully, we will show enough offensive spark to keep them from changing their minds. Starting Green at RB will help. Starting a true freshman at a major position like RB is something that those types of five star recruits like to see. Drake Harris will have very little competition at WR next year and should be able to secure a starting role, which will likely keep him interested in the program. Let us hope!

You didn’t get it…anyways I’ll fully aware of the perceptions that were around Hand.

Comparison to a couple other local area high schools:

College Readiness: 80
88 percent of AP tests had passing scores.

College Readiness: 72
70 percent of AP tests had passing scores.
