I was a comp sci major then I switched to Information Systems.We all know about outsourcing ; its all about writing codes in different country(India/China) and using them here. Thus i guess being a programmer is not going to be all that fruitful. After investing all that money in college ; I want to get paid well and learn something new.
So, the question is are Dadatabase Administrators in demand ?
Please comment!

A resounding YES! to your question! Application development (coders) is what is most outsourced in the IT world today, but not data management. No! Companies consider their data proprietary and thus it is closely guarded. A sharp journeyman Oracle or MS SQL DBA with a bachelors and 5 to 7 years experience working in a large data center environment now commands a six figure income plus benefits. How do I know this? I just hired one.

OK someone in the know. A couple of questions. What did you look for in this hire? After getting the degree (I received CIS degree last May) how/where does one start looking (everyplace wants experience) What certifications do employers like/appreciate/look for? Finally, what part of the country are you in?

Just how, then, do the application developers test their code without accessing the real data? Sounds kinda sketchy....I could see using fake data but that might lead to other problems.

Thanks for the reply toblin. Next fall i am transfering to SUNY Buffalo;
which is way better than my present university. I chose SUNY Buffalo because you cant beat it for the price, the computer science program there is good ( i have heard so) and being an international student i cant afford anything more than 20K anuualy.Wat do you say?
