So me and my friends had the idea to start a nonprofit near the end of my junior year. in about the 2nd to last week of school we began brainstorming and getting the word out, but we only created the website and started doing actual nonprofit work after the summer had already started. Can I still indicate that I began this activity in 11th grade on my commonapp, even though it was only for a small part of 11th grade?
Summer going into 12th. You had the idea at the end of junior year.
Ideas are great, but not an EC until you act on them as an extracurricular.
You cannot say that this activity occurred all of junior year.
Please don’t exaggerate.
It would be considered a summer activity after 11th grade.
Agree…an EC is not thinking of an idea, it is doing the hard work to turn the idea into action/accomplishment. It would be a senior year EC. It is unlikely that you will accomplish much with a new group before applications are due so do it only if it is something you are truly interested in. If your main objective is padding your resume for college I wouldn’t bother.
is Summer after 11th grade considered 12th grade? is that how that works?
Yes. You have completed 11th grade so it counts as 12th grade.
