Is anyone sure when they will be emailing us?? / sending packages??

they said in the e-mail, "no later than April 1".
no idea what that means though...

^I take it to mean, "the last possible minute on April 1st" xD

Kidding...I've heard that they come out around 5:00ish on the 1st.

I know this sounds both lazy and stupid but has anybody called admissions to find out if they know anything more specific? That would probably be the best way to know.

Well, they said the same thing for EA ("No later than December 15th), but I got my email at 6:00 on the 14th. So it's possible we could be getting them a day or two early.

FWIW, the number of people changing their Stanford status to "accepted" or "rejected" at mychances.net has been creeping up over the past couple of weeks, having added perhaps 20 (for a total around 100) in that period. Most colleges I watch don't change much until an "event" e.g. UCSD added about the same since they announced Saturday. Anyway, except for lack of confirmation here, one could guess that Stanford is sending out a significant number of acceptances to the people at the top of the list.

Why would anybody at the "top of the list" be changing their status to "rejected"?

"Why would anybody at the "top of the list" be changing their status to "rejected"?"

A+ for reading the post and drawing an interesting conclusion. Fact is, that site reports total number of its members who've posted an accept/deny result from each college, and I happen to keep an eye on that, but the details of accept/deny are one level down (along with links to individual stats, for the statistics-hungry). Very likely everyone hearing from Stanford now has an accept to crow about; I was being general because I don't know that.

I follows mychances.net more out of curiousity than for actual chances so I don't really care that much about what chances they give me, but... My chances at Stanford was in the 40%ish range when I registered a little over a month ago, and now it's at 17%. So either their formula changed or a lot of people with really high selectivity ratings got likely letters and are now saying that this = accepted status, so the results are skewed now.

On topic, I think/hope we'll find out on the 31st, since that's the date the Ivies are doing it, yes?

mychances is not very useful for a school like Stanford that is so strongly skewed toward selection based on words rather than numbers. But it's still better than nothing (and much better than shouting "chance me!" to an anonymous crowd. You can drill down and see individual details for everyone who's signed up, and rank youself the way you think the college will. You still don't see the essays and recommendations, of course, so it's not that much better than a coin toss.

I'm hoping that they finish up quickly and send out some more likelys.

likely letters are only for athletes, right?
going back to the OP, in clarification of my post, "No later than April 1" probably means to start checking the inbox compulsively on the 31st of March, if not earlier.

They have. Some received them today.

from an ea admit, all i have to say is, GOOD LUCK guys!!!!
i remember waiting for my ea decision, it was quite painful. for ea, they said it would be out 3 pm pacific time, but i didn't get my email until four hours later. so don't worry if you don't receive your email on time.

^not getting the email on time would probably send me into panic mode. thanks for the warning!

Nope. Stanford sends dozens of letters to "academic superstars" and "multicultural" people.

Well, the mychances tally added two more overnight, so it's almost blatantly obvious that Stanford is sending strong likely letters or better. Unfortunately, the folks getting them must think a site called "college confidential" sounds too tabloid for them to publish their details here.

Dear 2008 Applicants,

We know this can be an especially anxious time for you so here is an update on the status of our process:

We have received nearly 25,000 applications for admission (the largest in Stanford's history), which means that we will be able to offer admission to just 10% of those students who have applied. At this point in time, we have processed approximately 75% of the estimated 300,000 credentials we expect to receive. Beginning February 15, we will start sending confirmation emails to those candidates who have completed applications. These emails will confirm that all credentials have been received and processed.

If we are missing any required credentials at that time, you will instead be sent both an email and a letter informing you of what credentials are missing that are critical to our evaluation process. If we are missing any of your required credentials, you will have until February 28 to submit them. Both the email and letter will explain in detail how you should submit any missing credentials.

Since we still have thousands of credentials to process, do not send any duplicate copies of your credentials before we contact you later this month. You will, in no way, be penalized in our review process for credentials received and processed between now and February 28.

We will not be able to provide you with any more detailed information about the status of your application credentials prior to February 15, so we thank you in advance for your patience. During that time, we ask that you refrain from calling or emailing to check on the status of your application, as we still have thousands of credentials to process and we do not want to unnecessarily alarm you, your counselors or teachers. Please also understand that we do not track materials that are not required, so we will not be able to give you the status of any optional items sent (even if you call or email to request that information).

Our aim is to provide you with an admission decision no later than April 1. All decisions will be sent by email from Dean Richard Shaw to the address you provided to us on your application.

Until then, we wish you the best.

Sincerely,

Shawn

(academic/multi-cultural) pre-approvals (what you are referring to as likely
letters).

Has anyone received an admission letter (regular decision) from Stanford?
